Jon,
Yes, I noticed he hoped I was doping, lol!
Oh here we go, the list of your dislikes- I like Jack Johnson, and I don't care about the garden...it's home!
Plus to me, it is a real catchy tune.
Maybe I should check with you first...but I won't, lol!
Never mind Scott, but what exactly does "resy" mean?
I can't go a day without yodeling.
Now the Ten Years After thing...do you think I would NOT have thought of that song years ago?
Engineer Ken and I were feeling our way around, and didn't want to play a song that was so long in a one-hour show.
We had a good thing going, why upset the suits upstairs?
But we eventually did play it in 2009 or 2010.
That must be before you started listening.
Hope you doped well for Thanksgiving, lol,

Did you notice that Scott hoped you were doing drugs?

I know you've played Jack Johnson before, and I know I didn't like him before and I still don't. Imagine that. He's signing about a garden! What do I care??? Go back to the beach and put on your flip-flops!

Thank goodness the resy (with the exception of Elvis) was ok. Even Dolly was cool cause I like some yodelling in my songs!

Hey..where's Ten Years After? Didn't we have this discussion before?

Man that was as obscure as anything- a B-side to an old single that I wonder how many people have ever heard, lol!

Nice to hear you liked it though.

For how I came to Dolly and Randy Newman, read what I wrote Scott.

The Dave Clark Five song was right in the heyday of the British Invasion, so I guess all the English groups had a bit of Beatles in them.

Actually though, that was a slow song and maybe more Beatleish- they tended to do mostly rockers.

And the Roy Orbison tune was also a left field one from an album that came out a few years after his death.

I just happened to come across it, gave it a listen and thought it was really nice.

And it seemed to work not only musically in that set, but also in the progression of songs- Home, Come Home, Coming Home.

It was a natural.

And a co-winner of the coveted Golden Pell, lol!

Two excellent choices, and I'll split the gold cost with you.

It's only gold-plated though, right, lol?
I see you did Part Two...gonna read it now,

Mike, what a wide variety of artists you worked in for this show. From Jack Johnson to Roy Orbison to Elvis to Skynyrd to Dolly Parton and Randy Newman. No one can accuse you of being predictable.

My favorite segment here is the first half of the down home section. Loved Ricky Nelson, Elvis and Skynyrd. I wasn't crazy about Dolly and Randy Newman, but that's just me.

I had a hard time deciding who to give the Golden Pell to. I really liked both the Dave Clark Five tune and the Roy Orbison tune. The Dave Clark Five was really before my time. This particular song had a really strong Beatles feel to it for me. Were they always like that? And Coming Home by Roy Orbison was just a beautiful song. I can't make up my mind, so I'll order an extra gold statue from you and give 'em both a Golden Pell.

Very sly crack about misplacing shows that really does make me laugh out loud.

Your daughter has good taste.

There are quite a few artists who are better one little piece at a time, and I guess to you Jack Johnson is one of them.

The sameness of the songs can detract from them.

I honestly don't know if I include Johnson in there, but I do know the feeling.

Hahahahaha...Ozzy, Harriet and David bopping on the sofa.

Actually, by the time that song came out, Rick had long told his controlling father Ozzy to butt out of his music.

That was a first, Elvis and Skynyrd back to back.

I think I remember Eddy Arnold or somebody like him being played by my parents, but the first version I actually relate the song to is by Tom Jones.

I KNOW those couple of things on Dolly, the poor girl, lol!

And another Golden Pell to the collection, this time for Randy- nice choice.

Here's how that whole Down Home set came about.

I had the idea going into the show, and originally was going to start with Elvis, plus I knew I would play Skynyrd in it.

Then I thought of Down Home by Rick Nelson and thought that would be a good opener, even though few people would know the song.

The other two got bumped back one notch, and as Skynyrd was playing the idea hit me to play other songs with a Southern state in the name.

It's a fairly long song, so I had time to get the others.

I was heading for trouble however, as I have said before the terrestrial station likes it best if the two halves of the show are 28 to 28 1/2 minutes long.

I went over 29 minutes!

So no, that was the end of that stop along the way.

But I remember a couple of years ago I think, in a Thanksgiving show, I am sure I played Carolina In My Mind by James taylor for good ol' Carolina.

So good ol' Carolina doesn't need to be fixed, they were thought of before those other states years prior, lol!
Give a listen to Part Two later.

And thank you very much Scott!

Happy Thanksgiving Mike! Hope your doping well after all the storm issues up there.

My daughter likes this Jack Johnson guy, and the tune you posted isn't bad, but if memory serves me correctly (not like misplacing shows or anything but my memory gets fuzzy sometimes to) - his music started to blend into each song... So a one-off listen is a good thing, a Jack Johnson listening party? not so good.

I can totally picture Ricky standing in the living room singing this with his guitar and Ozzy, Harriet and David bopping on the sofa.

Elvis and Skynyrd back to back, interesting. I grew up listening to the green green grass of home, but if memory serves me correctly (there's that memory thing again!!) it was Eddy Arnold who was singing it. Ya, my parents jammed like that...

Couple things come to mind when I heard Dolly... uh, I better save that for a different discussion.

Golden Pell goes to Newman on old Kentucky Home. One complaint though, you worked way around the southeast a good bit but left out good ol' Carolina - the best of them all. Hopefully you fix that in part II?

Thank you, Thank you very much, Mike!
