Harem Scarem (Thumbs Down)

This is a let down.  I have one Harem Scarem album and it's really good.  But this just falls short for me.  It's pretty bland.  I think I'll just stick with the one album I have.

Sonata Arctica - Thumbs Even

I've seen this.  I dig the album cover, but it's not really a genre that works for me.  That being said, track one has a nice little melody.  The backing vocals remind me of Klaus Meine (however you spell the name of the Scorpions' vocalist).  The second track gives me the same feeling.  I do like the urgency in the voice of the vocalist in this song.  Track three is not as good to me overall, but the geetar is good.  The last two songs just kind of drag on for me, not bad but not special at all.  I was a bit surprised at this, but I don't think it's anything that would garner more than one or two spins from me.

Was going to delete this to free up some space and noticed someone (again) is not fulfilling their contractual obligation!

I was busy!

SONATA ARCTICA ... Two Thumbs that will never get this 24 minutes back

I probably could've lived without ever hearing this.  I don't think my feedback on this would come as any surprise to you.  This is no where near the style of music I would ever choose to listen to.  I have no idea where the Scorpions comparison comes from - simply don't hear it.  Track two was wholly forgettable.  Well lets just get to the point.  Didn't care for this ... at all

I don't believe I'm under contract, but the Sonata Arctica shows a lot of musical talent, but I just cant get into it very much. I did listen all the way through, and it's not bad...it just does not give me the rush of energy or that tingle of excitement that music I really dig gives me. But interesting listen, but no purchase for sure. Best track here for me is track 4, "Half A Marathon Man". Dig the very soft, melodic intro, and then easily the best rocking song here from that point on. More tracks like that would have me interested in this.

The Harem Scarem, as I listen to the 1st and 2nd tracks so far, is better than I expected. Not liking the chorus on this second track, but now this 3rd track, "Sentimental Blvd" is a pretty good rocker. Cool main riff and some nice lead guitar.

Track 4 has some really nice guitar licks here. Think it would be a better track without the "orchestration" moments, but that's just me. The final track, "A Brighter Day" has a very nice vocal melody to it. An "atmospheric" track, and I dig those!!

So, overall, this is a very interesting post, with two distinctly different styles, and that's a cool thing. The Harem Scarem is good enough where I might purchase it, were I to stumble across it. But the whole thing is good enough and diverse enough that I'm going to listen to it all the way through, both bands, right now. RIGHT NOW, ya hear? Good and cool post, Jon! Thanks!

HAREM SCAREM ... Two Thumbs up indicating its good to delete this

No Justice is 'ight ...  I know nothing about this band other than what's posted on CRB and some news bit from another site.  What sets this band apart from any other peer of theirs?  These guys don't stand out at all.  Solid musicians - check, decent vocalist - half a check, songwriting? eh...
