Classic Rock Bottom

Today I woke up and decided, I'm done buying new music.

The question is, will I be able to resist the temptation?

Reasons:
- literally have no room where to put the CDs. For a while, I've been using 2CD jewel cases to combine 2 different releases into a space of 1, but even that is not an option anymore. Can't buy a shelf either. Same problem. I used to have a bed in the den, where I retreat over the hot months, but for a few years now I'm just moving my mattress up and down the stairs because the bed was taking up too much space.

- I'm also tired of waiting for CD. This covid really screwed up the delivery system. I still have about 10 packages to receive from 2020, with 3 recently not showing up and in need of a refund. Man, I miss well-stocked local music stores.

In 2015, I stopped buying new comic books, cold turkey. That's been going well. Besides buying a bunch of older comics recently from Yugoslavia, I haven't bought any new comic books since.

DVD/BluRay's I do buy occasionally if I find a nice Steel Book edition or a Martial Arts movie because they don't always go to streaming services. And that's usually 3-4 movies per year. I might cut that one down too since my latest purchase was one of the worst Kung Fu movies I ever saw (Invincible Dragon).

Music was my last piece of entertainment in a physical format, still purchasing. In 2020 I bought over 130 CDs of which 40 were new music. I think I'll keep my eyes open for '70s Rock reissued on CDs (obscure artists only), and check once a year if anything I have on vinyl got a first time CD release. Other than that, I'm trying to stay away even from sites I looked up new releases.

I feel strongly about this decision today. Let's see if I can stick to it, better than to my diet plan.

The only way I can buy more CDs if I sell some of what I have set aside for such purpose. I've been meaning to do that for a few years. Maybe, now I'll be forced to. I have to get them organized and checked first.

Feel free to tell me I'm nuts.
Anyone else made a new year resolution?

Oh, why am I telling you this?
I thought I share this resolution because I want to see if there will be a repercussion. A ripple effect, if you will. If next year record companies declare a huge drop in sales of physical media, that means it was only thriving so far thanks to me. :-)
So, you can be my witness.

No resolutions for me.  I haven’t bought a DVD in years.  I only bought about 11-15 new releases of original music this year. I did buy a handful of new releases of archived material.  But as usual, I have bought a shitload of old music CDs.

if anything, I would like to buy less old CDs and more new releases this year.  Don’t know if that will happen.

Either way, I wish you luck on your resolution.  I know you can do it.  Unless you don’t.
