Classic Rock Bottom

Okay, so what movies from the year 2011 have you seen? Want to see?

Well, so far that I can remember I've seen:

Get Low starring Robert Duvall about a hermit in the 1930's who goes about having a funeral party BEFORE his death. I'm not quite sure what I was expecting but despite my fandom for Duvall, I was disappointed in this movie.

Last night I went to theater and saw the movie Hanna. Saoirse Ronan was good in the title role but otherwise this movie was a let down as well. Cate Blanchett's southern accent was distracting, the quick cut camera editing was annoying and when the reason why everyone wanted Hanna was revealed, all I could think was that they kind of ripped off the comic book back story of Captain America a bit.

Other movies I'm looking forward to seeing are: Green Lantern, Thor, Conan The Barbarian, Fast Five and Beautiful Boy. The last one is about parents who hear about a shooting on a campus where there son goes to school, only to find out it was their son who did the shootings. I saw the trailer on On Demand and it looked intense.

Well yeah of course.

This is what I watched Sunday:

Bitch Slap--B

Kind of silly movie, but good looking women fighting. A lot.

Sucker Punch--A

What's all the derision surrounding this movie? Guess it's a love-it-or-hate-it type of flick. And I really, really liked it.

Drive Angry--A

Has to be seen to be believed. Over the top. WAAAAAAY over the top. Seriously. WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY over the top.

I have absolutely no class when it comes to movies. But if I'm entertained, that's enough for me.

Or maybe I liked all of these due to lack of water?

I read the plot of the movie on Wikipedia for Drive Angry.

That something that goddamn stupid got made is enough to make me Angry...driving or otherwise.

I'll probably pick up Sucker Punch because Jena Malone is in it and I'm a big fan, but it looks like crap and I've really heard very little about the movie that was good.

I watched Resident Evil: Afterlife very early yesterday morning when I woke up and couldn't get back to sleep. Much like the rest of the entries in the series it was fine to watch once but repetitively stupid.

Last night I watched a documentary on the PBS World channel. It was about small school high school girls basketball in Montana. Being a girls basketball coach, I found it very interesting.

I saw Blue Crush 2 a few days ago. It was decent for what it was. Less a direct sequel than a new story with the same title, I enjoyed it nonetheless.

I went and saw the movie "The Help" yesterday.

While it has been getting attacked from some corners for being historically inaccurate, I thought that for what the movie was intended to be, it did a pretty good job.

While not a "great" movie, it was entertaining and featured winning performances from Viola Davis, Octavia Spencer and Emma Stone.

I saw Thor.

I loved the visuals of Asgard but was incredibly underwhelmed with the story.

I got The Legend of Billie Jean on DVD, which had been released on DVD at long last. Loved the movie when I was a kid and it remains pure awesomeness.

I watched the Sylvester Stallone movie Daylight the other day and enjoyed that again.

Last night I watched the new Conan the Barbarian movie. The script/story was beyond stupid, but I actually enjoyed it more than I thought I would.

What was stupid about it? I'm planning on buying the DVD, but maybe, you can talk me out of it?

Is Captain America worth buyin? I've allways though, he was one of the coolest super-hero's.

It was just badly written. I didn't enjoy the story that was propelling the film. I've read a LOT of Conan stories over the years and this was just a weak ass story.

Captain America was flat out great. I've been very disappointed in most comic book movies I've seen in the last few years. I had low expectations for Captain America because of that. But let me tell you, I simply had a great viewing experience.

Fair is fair!!!

La Bamba was on regular TV the other night.  It's the first time I have seen it.  Never had any interest, but it was pretty good.
