TOP 5 DUAL PERSONALITIES (I'M IN A BAND/I'M A SOLO ARTIST)

This is a Top 5 list for artists that were in a band and decided to branch out into the solo field.  Who do you think did it best?  But there are rules to make it a little trickier.

1. The artist must have at least one US Gold studio album with his or her band and at least one US Gold studio album as a solo artist.

2. The solo portion must be billed as that particular person (so Ronnie James Dio would not qualify because he was in a band named Dio, it was not billed as RJD solo).

3. The artist must have had released a gold studio album with his band prior to releasing a solo gold studio album.

4.  This is meant to be weighted on how much you like an artist as well as how well that artist sold.  That's why rule number one is in place.  For instance, Paul Stanley is my favorite musician and artist of all time, but he does not qualify because he did not go Gold as a solo artist (the '78 solo albums were billed as Kiss).

That's it.  So who you got?

5. Phil Collins

4. Stevie Nicks

3. Don Henley

2. Ozzy Osbourne

1. David Lee Roth

Although Randy played by the rules that are in place, Niels does have a point.  My rules do not reinforce the opening statement for the purpose of this thread.

That applies to Roy Orbison as well.  Was he in a band before he went solo?

I'll make a ruling later tonight.

I've already decided to amend the rules of the thread (please see new rule number 3).  Therefore, Bob Dylan and Roy Orbison are out (unless Orbison was in a band prior to going solo that I'm not aware of).  And I'll have to check on Neil Young.

Randy, I apologize for not being clearer.  I hope you are willing to amend your list.

Okay, for Randy and Scott, I'm tossing Neil Young as well.  He was in Buffalo Springfield first, but no gold studio albums.  He released a solo album that did not go gold, then he had a gold or better solo album released on May 14, 1969, followed by a gold or better band album with Crosby Stills Nash and Young on May 29, 1969.  Unless somebody informs me otherwise, he's out.

Sorry, I overlooked rule #3. Let me try this again.

Ahem..did Townsend have any GOLD solo albums? Thought "Empty Glass" would be gold, but Wikipediacrap didn't say so.

I thought empty glass was as well... Whose our fact checker?

That's why you gotta check this site (type Townshend in the search box and scroll down):

RIAA

Platinum! This is better than Wikipedialkfoirfdm but it is kinda touch with spelling, also using the first name ain't good. Maybe I'll revise my list......

Still checking on Neil Young as applicable to the amended rules.

See the reply above regarding the dismissal of Neil Young.

Had to tweak mine since Neil was kicked out!
