Classic Rock Bottom

Green Lantern stars Ryan Reynolds as hot shot pilot Hal Jordan, a pilot that knows how to fly but isn't exactly Mr Reliability. The movie starts out with a brief explanation of who and what the Green Lantern Corps is and what they do. Eventually we end up on Earth to a sleeping Hal Jordan, who wakes up and realizes that he is suppose to be at work for an important meeting... he speeds to work and after a brief discussion with the other pilot, they take to the skies to try and outfox a pair of planes controlled entirely by computers. Hal is able to expose a weakness in the robotic planes but also crashes his own plane in the process.

Unknown to Hal, one of the Green Lantern Corps finest members is laying in a crashed ship on Earth. The alien has commanded his ring to find his replacement and as it turns out, Hal is selected and then transported back to the crashed ship. The alien explains to Hal to take the ring and the lantern and to speak the oath, once Hal does that and uses the ring once he is transported to the home planet of the Lantern Corps. There he receives some training... and a cold shoulder from the head of the Lanterns. Hal is discouraged and feels that for whatever reason, the ring has made a mistake as he is anything near fearless and attempts to quit. Eventually though he is forced into action and finally comes face to face with a devastating alien entity that test Hal to his limits.

Well, I can't say this was the best superhero movie ever made... its one of those films that wasn't bad but it wasn't great either... specially when compared to other superhero flicks like Superman, The Dark Knight and a few others. As with most movies, it of course had its moments and the action for the most part was decent enough as well as the effects. I did see the 3D version today and was a little more impressed with that then the 2D version and as far as the 3D goes, I would say that the 3D was more noticeable in this movie then in many of the more recent 3D movies I have seen.

I'm going to give this movie a 7 out of 10!
