Time for another catalog review. I was gonna go with Blue Oyster Cult next, but seeing as how this Friday sees the release of a brand new Cheap Trick album, I thought it was fitting to cover their catalog next. My history with CT really didn't start until At Budokan. My neighbor had the album and he was a drummer, so we listened to Side B a lot. For years I assumed that was Side A, but whatever. I remember a cousin of mine really liked Gonna Raise Hell from Dream Police, then they were forgotten until 1985 and Standing On The Edge. I saw the video for Tonight It's You in a hotel room when I was in St. Simons Island working for Revco. I bought it and loved it from start to finish. Then they disappeared again for me until I started this website and I began to purchase a lot of back catalog stuff. I picked up the complete albums box a year or two ago and I now own all of the studio albums as well as several live releases.
We will cover all of the studio releases and a couple of live releases, culminating with the brand new release due on Friday. As usual, I will rank the albums and pick my favorite songs for an Ultimate Cheap Trick Playlist. I encourage you to play along, as I'm sure my song picks and album rankings won't always agree with yours. I will also use this as an excuse to revamp the group page here at CRB. Hope you enjoy!
