CHEAP TRICK - NEXT POSITION PLEASE (1983)

I think the closer on the new Cheap Trick album, All Strung Out, would sound great running underneath the credits of a motion picture. But that's another story. We need to talk about Cheap Trick's follow up to One On One, 1983's Next Position Please. First and foremost, this was the band's second release with Jon Brant on bass. I totally forgot to mention that he had replaced original bassist Tom Petersson on the previous album. The album rose as high as number 61 on the Billboard chart, but has failed to gain any certification from the RIAA. Dancing The Night Away and I Can't Take It were released as singles, but neither charted. I Can't Take It is a cool song. And Younger Girls has a Stones vibe, while Don't Make Our Love A Crime has a ZZ Top slant. By the way, the album was released originally in a way that the band did not intend, but was re-released later in the "authorized version", which is what I own. This album is definitely power pop. Actually, about half of the tracks sound like they were made for movie soundtracks, like the song from the new album that I mentioned above. I don't think it has any individual songs as good as If You Want My Love from the previous release, but it sounds a bit more cohesive to me as a whole. What about you?
