ROCKOLLECTIONS: 1967 AND THE SUMMER OF LOVE PT.5

Just where did this whole Summer Of Love phenomenon begin back in 1967?
Most people would point to the city I will celebrate in song.
After that, a musical look at what the Soul singers were putting out for our listening pleasure.
Just some of the best music you could hear!
And you like GOOD MUSIC, don't you, lol?

Here's our NEW link to the continuing Rockollections, at our NEW home, Podomatic.com:

RJ,
It feels funny when I just go and play hits like that.
I knew I would begin that set with Sweet Soul Music, just like I knew I would do the same thing with So You Wanna Be A Rock & Roll Star by the Byrds.
After that, I just trusted my inner compass would provide the next songs...noticed I had played men, so I went for the Soul women next- that's how the show works.
But I wanted to make a point- that ALL kinds of music were being played on the Progressive Rock FM stations back then...just total freedom, and each DJ at WNEW-FM had his own specific tastes.
I'll undoubtedly hit Folk and Blues too, these were my introductions to that music.
What's-her-name was Carla Thomas, and although I maybe shouldn't have said what I did, I thought it was funny!
Yeah, I always dug that sock it to me, sock it to me in the bsckground too!
Seems like a reluctant Golden Pell, lol!
That's what happens when I play hits, you know them all.
It's Eric Burdon & The Animals...I'll take it, lol!
Next chapter is entirely different...and I like it better!
Thanks for the listen and writing, always enjoy what you say,
Mike

Pretty good stuff Mike.  Another greatest hits show.  This time the only two I'm definitely not familiar with would be San Franciscan Nights by Eric B.  and the last track by Otis Redding and whats-her-name.

All nice tunes, Sweet Soul Music, I Second That Emotion, Your Love Is Lifting Me Higher and Higher, Respect (love the sock it to me lyric) and Jimmy Mack.  I'm not sure if I've heard the Diana ross and the Supremes track or not.

Oh well, Golden Pell to Eric B. for San Franciscan Nights (I'm not sure how you spell his last name).

By the way, that first cheerleader is invited over to my place ANYTIME!

RJ,
Once again, your good taste in aesthetics shows itself.
What are aesthetics again, lol?
The more practical reason is the one I told Jon.

Jon,

I think I'll base myself out of Bass-O-Matic though.

It holds about 6 shows at a time, while Soundcloud only TWO!

And you REALLY like the 2nd cheerleader, lol?

Wait a minute...it's his high school crush...

Break it up guys, lol!

Oh for *&%$# sake!

Makes you wonder how he knew where that second picture was. I'm thinking it's his high school crush....

I like Podomatic better.  I just like the aesthetics better.  But I'm not at all surprised that Jon and I have opposite opinions on the matter.  We usually do.  For instance, I prefer this style cheerleader:

Whereas, Jon prefers this style cheerleader:

Personally, I like Soundcloud better. It played on Firefox (yay) and was even prettier than Bass-O-Matic. Sounded fine as well.

Jon,
Hahahahaha...no punchlines...priceless!
Yep, started with some rock and then wove my way into Soul.
Tomorrow night some very progressive Rock from 1967.
Hey, I didn't see you use my Bass-O-Matic line, lol!
I put the episode up using Internet Explorer, but I played it back on Firefox.
Wonder why you had a problem?
Like I told Scott, I was looking at another place today called Soundcloud.
I gave him a link to Part One, so I'll give you Part Two, let me know what you think:

Thanks for listening and writing buddy,
Mike

Scott,
You really like that look?
I always had that place as a backup, so that's why I am back so quickly.
But I was looking at another place today, fiddling with it and it seems to work.
Yes I recall you mentioning going through Haight Ashbury not long ago.
Thankfully smells aren't recorded on home movies, lol!
That bad though?
I played the Soul sounds just because I want to give an all-around feel for what it was like listening to music in 1967.
I'll also hit Blues and Folk and anything else I think of.
But the next episode out tomorrow night, will contain things I am SURE would be playing on street corners and in head shops!
Pod-O-Matic and Gallagher...not to mention Dan Akroyd on SNL with Bass-O-Matic, lol!
Oh, here's the other new place, check it out, it is Part One again however:

Thanks for the listen and writing,
Mike
