ROCKOLLECTIONS: SALUTE TO RADIO- SCARY RADIO

Even after all these 15 years, new things can happen- it keeps life interesting.
The night before I recorded this show, I heard a song from 1979 for the first time in my life.
It was sent to me by a friend, Jeff Hogland, and I was completely taken by it.
I had been wondering how to start the 2nd half...suddenly it was easy, I thought ok that's it!
Sometimes...just sometimes...suggestions pay off!
We'll go from there,
And since next week is Halloween, I will have some Scary Radio for you.
Including possibly the most frightening broadcast that ever occurred, on Oct. 30, 1938 as a Halloween Radio presentation.
What resulted in an outcry of outrage back then, nowadays would undoubtedly have been lawsuits- as we have become a nation of whining litigious babies!
This episode will have the usual surprises you have come to expect.
And next week I'll take a break from the Salute To Radio, for a Halloween Party.
The week after that, it will be back to playing the best damn songs you have ever heard about The Radio!
But let's not get ahead of ourselves.
Do enjoy this one!

Scott,
Yeah, I went to the first notice and it took me nowhere.
Oh man, I hate that- some of the best damn things I ever wrote ended up in the ozone, lol!
Welome back my man!
Glad you dont have to travel to Detroit anymore, it's a dying city and no one is fixing it.
Now THIS is funny:

I imagined that the poor guy in the car who got scared listening to the War of the Worlds broadcast must be much like you feel when you post a how and Jon replies to it!

Sometimes worse, lol!
Poor Jon, he's always the butt of a joke.
I love The Beach Boys new album, played a couple of other tracks from it on an Odds & Ends show.
I agree, we have the best taste around here, lol!
If you can, check out the other chapters of the Salute To Radio- I want them to be the best shows I've ever done, and so far I am proud of them.
Thanks for the listen and writing, and welcome back again,
Mike

I typed a great comment and then lost it!  &*($(*)$%*&^$#@#$)_(*!!!!!

I was trying to explain to you why Ive been absent, its because of work... I have a new job and its busy and thats a great thing.  Best part is that I dont have to travel to Detroit anymore - you know how they are there!

Anyway, loved the show, I imagined that the poor guy in the car who got scared listening to the War of the Worlds broadcast must be much like you feel when you post a how and Jon replies to it!  SCCaaaRRrrYYyyy!!!

I loved ending with The Beach Boys new stuff, their new album is pretty cool!  I posted it on here and it a few "eh's"...  But you and I know who has the best taste around here!

You are completely CORRECT sir, LOL!

Stay away from my gate...er...door!

Comment by Jon on October 25, 2013 at 12:35pm

Yeah, but why would you steal a GATE? And how would they be able to do that way back when? They didn't have tools then, they had rocks and clubs. Wouldn't the noise have awakened the owner?  It's not easy removing a gate with rocks and clubs, believe me, I've tried. Plus, with the nose, the owner wold have grabbed their own club and clubbed the crap out of those trying to steal the gate. Just doesn't make sense, it's a stupid prank especially if you get clubbed to death everytime you try it. People were so silly back then.

Yes I know.

My imagination made me think that stealing a person's gate might be a good Halloween prank...maybe it was in the 1930's!

We both caught it, but I have no gate in front of my house- there are 2 doors, the 2nd one you need a key for.

Orson mentioned something about stealing garden gates.

RJ,
My pleasure- thanks for the song!
Jon is Biblical, he knoweth not what he talketh about, lol?
Alright, right out of the box the Golden Pell goes to Shemekia Copeland!
I accidentally came across that song and couldn't believe how pertinent those lyrics were.
Don't have The Oak Ridge Boys Have Arrived, but based on that terrific track, I'd give it all a listen.
Ah, I do that with all CD's anyway, lol!
No kidding, you never watched the Twilight Zone?
There were scarier ones than the Shatner & the person out on the wing of the airplane!
To Serve Man comes to mind.
Be even scarier on the radio...left to your imagination!
Thanks for the listen & writing, I think that went smoothly, lol,
Mike

Jon,
It's not that, just something odd about that Jack's Mannequin- but it could use a little more life.
Shemekia says hello!
That first song was very good, and was given to me by a guy you have much in common with and agree with on almost everything...you'd really like each other, LOL!
Hey, kids should know their rightful place like back in the 60's- stay in a corner and be silent unless spoken to, you little brat!
How come you have the George Harrison album if you don't like it?
Did you buy it for that one song?
You can be a peculiar man, lol!

And who stole garden gates???????????????

Don't ask me.
I'm a city boy, we ain't got no steenkin' garden gates!
What ARE they, lol?
Thanks for the listen & writing,
Mike

Hey, thanks for the shout out.  Don't listen to Jon (I know you don't), he knoweth not what he talketh about.  Except for the fact that the Copeland song was really good.  Golden Pell to her.

I'm glad you like the Oak Ridge Boys song.  That whole album (The Oak Ridge Boys Have Arrived) is one of my all-time favorites.  Great from top to bottom.

All the other stuff was good too.  I never watched the Twilight Zone.  I saw the one with the person out on the wing of the airplane and it scared the crap out of me.  No more TZ for me.

Maybe you didn't like Jack's Mannequin because the singer has that bored sounding voice? That's why I didn't like it.

The Copeland song was good (I won't even bother with the first name). The first song was allright. didn't know you had any friends plus shocked that you would call that person a friend. Maybe you were kidding around since you had Bill Cosby on?

Would have funny if that kid Rod was talking to turned out to be a girl and she got mad and kicked him. Sadly, that would never had happened since kids knew their rightful place back in the 60's: in a corner and silent unless spoken to.

Hey, you played that Beach Boys song before! Still a nice song. The George Harrison song is good, one of the few GH songs I like. I have that album and don't like it much.

That is a shame that radio can't have a broadcast like War Of The Worlds nowadays. But, with current happenings, I guess I can see why.

And who stole garden gates???????????????
