FOR 9/11- NEW YORK SONGS & MORE 2010 PT.1

Been a while since we did one of these traditional remembrances.
Not that I forgot- 2 years ago I was doing the Salute To Radio for my 10th Anniversary that ran into Sept.11th, and last year we were getting kicked out of our radio station.
No selfishness here, New York Songs because I am a New Yorker, do a show for that station that is back and running in New York, we took the biggest hit from those nitwit islamic terrorists, and there are simply more songs about New York than any place in the world.
If that weren't enough, there are no songs to my knowledge about the attack on the Pentagon, and the one I know of about Flight 93 in Pennsylvania, Let's Roll by Neil Young, I have played a number of times.
Although I live in Brooklyn, I grew up in Manhattan- those are my roots, and I worked many years in the Wall Street area where the World Trade Center was.
No matter what borough I live in though- and for those that don't know we have 5, Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens, The Bronx and Staten Island- I'll always have a Heart In New York, loving That Beautiful Noise.
There will probably be songs in this first half you will not know.
But give them a chance and a close listen, for they contain lyrics meaningful to me, and maybe can give you a feel for this city, warts and all.
The upcoming Part Two will be VERY different!

And here is the link to this year's opening half, the NEW one, sorry if I may be confusing, at WLSO.FM:

Dear RJ,
Yes that Art Garfunkel Heart In New York is a beauty, and I have played it for 9/11 a number of times- I keep coming back to it.
Same with Dion's King Of The New York Streets.
The Neil Diamond song was the title track from an album that was an indication he was moving away from the pop hits and into more introspective songs, moving along with the times and growing.
Although I really liked ALL the songs in this first half, the Ace Frehley song was the highlight for me for good old kickass rock & roll, lol!
I said to myself "What am I gonna play after THAT?"
But I think I handled it, lol!
I am still Counting the Crows!
Thanks for listening my friend, and your always insightful comments,
Mike

Man, I really liked that show Mike. Every song was good, but the Art Garfunkel song was absolutely beautiful. Great tune.

I also liked the Neil Daimond song. He has a great voice.

Ace Frehley. I love hearing Kiss songs or songs by individual members of Kiss on different radio shows, especially when it's not Rock And Roll All Nite, and especially when it's on a Monday morning. Great choice.

The Counting Crows tune was really cool as well.
