ROCKOLLECTIONS: THE NYC MARATHON PT.2 END

This musical NYC Marathon is at the 13 mile mark, so the Race is either half over or there is still half to go- kind of like that old glass of water and its fullness, lol!

There are many reasons to Run, and we'll open with the most important I can think of.

Many years ago when I first thought of doing this show, a flurry of songs immediately came to mind.

One was by Laura Nyro, who is shamefully neglected by Commercial Radio, but we'll hear her.

I myself have never been into Long Distance Running, it's too vague for me, I much prefer to see the goal I am running for.

In Baseball, going from first to third on a single...that makes sense, and there is the possibility of being thrown out.

The times I have jogged with people I am bored out of my skull, there's no point to it- after awhile I find I have nothing to say to the other person...and little breath left to do so, lol!

But I do admire Marathon Runners, giving it all they have to finish the Race, reaching inside mentally and physically for that last ounce of whatever it takes.

Best wishes to all who are running Sunday in the Marathon, may you make it all the way with your best time ever!
And keep on Running for many years to come!

Oh, and I hope everyone had a Happy Halloween!

Undoubtedly next year I will return to that.

But one never knows...!

Very possible I've heard the Mike & The Mechanics, less likely Iron Maiden.

But why does the title The Loneliness Of The Long Distance Runner sound so familiar?

Interesting how a peaceloving guy like John Lennon could write a song that says "I'd rather see you dead little girl than to see you with another man"!

No attempt at Halloween, just the direction my mind took me, and I have completely forgotten Porky's 2.

If anyone would remeber it would be you, lol!

Sounds like a plane taking off at the beginning of the Ten Years After, so again I didn't have Halloween in mind at all.

Did you just use the word " hence"?

The Young/Stills track was a'ight, nothing too special.

 

In context, it was a special choice!

Well Jonny, it was NOT a Halloween show, second year in a row, last year I played music for All Saints Day.

It's a good thing I just go with how I feel, I can't tell if there was anything in there you liked.

Long list of things you don't like though, lol!

While I did write about not talking while running in my blog, I am not aware of Silent Running by Mike & The Mechanics.

That's another cool thing about music, you can't know them all!

Do you have it?
And when I do listen...it will be NEW to me, lol!
Man, you listened to this one right away.

There is such fertile ground with so many songs byThe Beatles, I guess I CAN work them into any Theme, lol!

The Coasters went so well after The Beatles in my mind, I had to play it- plus I like to go back to the 50's early Rock- it's great music and keeps people off guard.

Running On Empty was one of those first thoughts many years ago, it was just a matter of when I would play that great song.

Gonna Run by Ten Years After was another early one I thought of.

It is very atmospheric as it moves into an almost Jazz/Rock.

You do like your guitar, so I thought you would like that one, lol!
A worthy recipient for the Golden Pell.

Although maybe the most fun to hear for me was the Paul Simon song, hadn't heard it in a long time and it was a last second pick.

I wonder who'll win Ten Years Later, lol?

Ha! Running On Empty! Told ya!

The first two songs were pretty violent, so kinda Halloween songs, no? And everytime I hear the word "boogity" I think of Porky's 2. So the Coasters song reminded me of that.....

Laura Nyro? Noro. It didn't ebb and flow. It was just a constant. Kinda boring. Wait, not "kinda", totally.

The Ten Years After song was creey at the beginning, hence ANOTHER Halloween song. 

The Young/Stills track was a'ight, nothing too special.
