Classic Rock Bottom

I hope everybody has enjoyed the New Music Corner as much as I have.  It's always great to hear what others think is cool, because sometimes you agree with them, and you discover some music or a band that becomes a favorite.  I think Jon, Niels, Scott and Myself have done a pretty good job of getting new music out there for all of the CRB members to hear.  I'm not sure how much of it has been heard by anyone other than us four, but we can't make folks take advantage of it.

Anyway, I wanted to do an informal survey and see if anyone has bought music based on CRB's New Music Corner.  Hopefully anyone that has will take the survey.

1. Other than what you've submitted to the NMC, have you bought anything after hearing it for the first time here?

2.  If so, what was it?

3. Can you offer a Top 5 or so of the albums you've listened to in the NMC (don't include anything you've submitted)?

4. Are any of the albums appearing in NMC on you're "possible buy" list?

That's it.  It's not a long survey, so I look forward to everyone's answers, good or bad.  I'll post mine in the first reply.

1. Manic Street Preachers - Postcards From A Young Man

2. Atomic Tom - The Moment

3. Monster Magnet - Mastermind

4. Black Mountain - Wilderness Heart

5. Filter - The Trouble With Angles (by Jon)

I'm making my Top 5 from CD's I haven't received yet or that I'm on the fence with.

4. Are any of the albums appearing in NMC on you're "possible buy" list?

Filter - The Trouble With Angels (by Jon)

Death Angel - Relentless Retribution (by Jon)

***As a side note, I've also purchased Danko Jones & The Damned Things based on one song I heard from each in the Videos Of The Week feature by Niels.  Danko will see the light of day in my next NMC in about 8 or 9 days.

I like this topic....   I will need to go back and take stock of what damage the NMC's have done to my wallet. more to come

Thanks Scott.  I'm looking forward to seeing the damage as well.

A very good topic. I shall return with some answers.

Here we go:

1. Other than what you've submitted to the NMC, have you bought anything after hearing it for the first time here?

Only one:

2.  If so, what was it?

DEVO "Something for everybody (JON)

3. Can you offer a Top 5 or so of the albums you've listened to in the NMC (don't include anything you've submitted)?

Some of the albums, I had bought before I heard them in NMC. I do'nt think you want me to list them on a Top-5?

Without them, then it's like this:

1. Stone Temple Pilots - STP (Scott)

2. Spocks Beard - X (Scott)

3. RATT - Infestation (RJhog)

4. Iron Maiden - The final frontier (Scott)

5. Blind Guardian - At the edge of time (Jon)

4. Are any of the albums appearing in NMC on you're "possible buy" list?

Stone Temple Pilots and Spocks Beard.

Scott, I just wanted to say that Atomic Tom totally rocks.  Not really a classic rock sound, but I'm totally into this CD right now.  I didn't like the first track to start with, but it's become much better with time.  The only song I skip is track 4, Red Light Warning Sign.  I like every other track, so thanks for this.

I totally agree, its a fine release and an accidental find for me based on that iPhoen "commercial" I stumbled on.  Now Ive seen tons of people do the same thing, but they were the first (at least for me)...

I hope they just keep getting better because this release is hugely promising!

I'm still kind of new to the site, so I'm way behind in responding to this post, but here goes:

I have purchased the following releases because of hearing them on NMC first:

"Forevermore" - Whitesnake -  I think it is as good as anything they've ever done. 'Nuff said from me.

"What If" - Mr. Big - Took me a few listens to start digging this...but indeed I do think its a good listen. Paul Gilbert and Billy Sheehan...world class string-masters!

"Dedicated To Chaos" - Queensryche - Bought this one because I liked one tune that was posted here so much that I had to have it..."Around The World" just...umm, strikes a chord with me!

"Somewhere In California" - Night Ranger - there was one song in particular on this posting that made me say "I'm gonna buy it". But now, after having it, I'm not sure it will ever be in more than "low rotation". Maybe I'll start liking it more later on.

"Rockaholic" - Warrant - Really like this a lot. Robert Mason adds a lot of vocal skill to this band.

"This Is Gonna Hurt" - Sixx: A.M. - the first half of this CD is good...the second half I'm not into much...at least not yet. Glad I got it though.

Bought both of the Black Country releases without having to hear them. Waiting to get the new Black Stone Cherry when I can get the expanded edition with 3 bonus tracks. Also want to get Hurtsmile and Armored Saint, when I can, based soley on what I heard here! And there was one band Niels posted I really liked, but cant remember who. So I'm going back through a lot of older NMC postings this week to listen some more. Checking out the Nazereth and Uriah Heep posting right now.

P.S. Please send money right away! Kids are not happy eating baloney sammiches every night because I spend all my money on music.

Just fry that baloney bro!  Tell 'em it's a "Southern" delicacy.

Seriously, I appreciate your feedback tremendously.  The very reason we started this NMC was to give everybody some exposure to new music.  That way you really can make a fairly informed purchase.  Times are tough, it's great to make a purchase with some confidence, or just save your money.

Southern delicacy, indeed!

But yes, good to hear before you buy, for sure. Its also a great way to hear of bands you like, but never would have heard of if not for the postings in NMC!

Retraction/verification/update...whatever!!

Went home last night and listened to the new Night Ranger all the way through, twice! And, yes, I stand corrected...it is really good! Killer guitar work, and some good songs! Sometimes, it just takes a few listens, ya know??

I'm glad you finally adjusted your opinion in the correct direction.
