Lillian Axe--XI: The Days Before Tomorrow (February 2012)

1. Babylon
2. Death Comes Tomorrow
3. Gather Up The Snow
4. Bow Your Head
5. Lava On My Tongue

For Lillian Axe's newest album, I cannot put into words how impressed I am with this. Just one word comes to mind and that's "awesome". I bow to its total awesomeness. I was worried a tad with the new singer (Brian Jones), but he does a fantastic job. Steve Blaze is an unheralded geetar god and, even though I know squat about playing that instrument, I know what I like and I like his playing. A lot. Picking five tracks was a bit of a pain since there's not a dud on the whole album so you'll just have to buy this damn album so you too can bow down to it's total 100% awesomeness. Since 1993's "Psychoshizophrenia", Lillian Axe have put out a very impressive string of albums. Oh yeah, I like this. A LOT.

Due to the awesomeness of "The Days Before Tomorrow", anything else I could have posted would have been overshadowed so you'll have to do with the one album.

Theres something strangely OK about this sampling!  And did I read somewhere that the guy on Rhythm Geetar was named Jonster?

So at first listen I was expecting some cookie monster vocals and some power metal riffage.  I was ready with some smart-ass review about how this sounds the same as all Nu/Power-Metal stuff thats going on today, but alas, I had to scrap my plans to dead-pan Jon's latest NMC entry.

Dont get me wrong this isnt purchase material, but its bording on pretty darn good...  The geetar work is pretty solid, particularly liked Bow Your Head and Lava On My Tongue.

Nice find Jonster

Jonster on rhythm geetar? Say what?

Yup - heres the wiki excerpt

The best known line-up is Ron Taylor (lead vocals), Steve Blaze (lead guitar, keyboards, backing vocals), Jon Ster (rhythm guitar, keyboards, backing vocals), Rob Stratton (bass guitar), and Danny King (drums).

That's OLD...

Brian Jones (vocals)

Sam Poitevent (geetars and vocals)

oh wait..I get it now. You're ARE talking about an older version.

NEVERMIND.

Eric Morris (bass)

Ken Koudelka (drums)

Steve Blaze (geetars)

Yes, thats old but whats new is how we refer to you...  Jonster...

Me likey! Now I have to get a Jonster picture. What does a Jonster look like?

LILLIAN AXE - THUMBS UP

Wrong! I didn't have to BUY the album, to listen to all of it, just a few "click"  on my IPhone, and there the album was.

The first things I noticed was, that the guitars are good, but the singer is kind of weak. Now, I don't know much about Lilian Axe, only the name of the band in fact, so I can't say, how good the former singer was, but I'm not impressed by the new one. But I like the music. I wouldn't call it awesome, but quite good. "Death Comes Tomorrow" is a very good track. I can hear inspiration from Ozzy Osbourne("Gather Up The Snow") and Metallica (some of the guitars). But also Riot. Not bad at all.

I've been seeing and hearing Jon talk about Lillian Axe for a long time now...so nice to hear something by them.

It took about 1.2 seconds for me to start really digging the first track. I love being hit by a sledgehammer...when it comes in the form of good rock n roll!! Killer riffage during the faster parts of this song. The main lead in the middle of the song is killer!

But...the only other track that really grabbed my attention was the final track. Would like to hear more of this, and other Lillian Axe. Definitely some quality guitar playing. In quite a few points in listening to this, I kept feeling like the lead vocalist sounded very similar to the lead singer for Sixx A.M. Which is not a bad thing...its just a thing I noticed.

Might have to pick this up, or something by this band, at some point. Enjoyed checking it out!

I have them all! Check this out from last year: http://classic-rock-bottom.ning.com/forum/topics/nmc-8-lillian-axe-...
