This is not really a "Best of"-list, but it's a list of some great music from the 60's, but only one track pr. artist. If I should make a "Best of"-list out of the music from the 60's, there would probably be 5 Beatles-, 3 Led Zeppelin- and 2 Who-tracks.
I had to leave a couple of artists out of the list (You know, only 10 songs!!), so no Bob Dylan, Pink Floyd or Frank Zappa this time around.
1. The Beatles - Taxman
This is one of my favorite Beatles-tracks from probably my favorite Beatles-album. Even though my favorite Beatle is Paul, because imho, he has made the greatest Beatles-songs, it's a George-song, I have on this list. It's a great opening-song to the Revolver-album, and the first of a couple of great songs, that George wrote to the Beatles-catalouge.
2. Jethro Tull - Look into the sun
"Stand Up" from 1969, is probably my favorite Jethro Tull studio-album. My favorite JT-album is the live-album "Bursting Out" from 1979.
3. Jimi Hendrix - Voodoo Child (Slight return)
I've never been a big fan of Jimi Hendrix, but I like this song. I'm sure, he's a great guitarist, but imho, the sound of his music is too "hippie" for me, but as I said, I really like this song.
4. The Rolling Stones - The last time
Probably my favorite Rolling Stones-track, and imho one of all times best guitar-riffs. I've just bought Keith Richards new book "Life", and I'm looking forward to reading it.
5. The Kinks - Starstuck
It was very difficult to find, the "right" Kinks-song, because Ray Davies is a GREAT song-writer, so there's tons of songs to pick from. At the moment "Starstuck" is my favorite.
6. Led Zeppelin - What is and what should never be
Led Zep II is imho the third best LZ-album, but this song is probably my favorite-song of theirs.
7. Beach Boys - God only knows
I'm not much of a Beach Boys-fan either, but I agree with Paul McCartney, when he says, that this is one of the greatest songs ever written.
8. The Doors - Love Street
This song is probably my favorite by the Doors. I've got all the Doors-albums, but it's not that often, that I listen to them, only the greatest hits-album.
9. David Bowie - Space Oddity
This is a great David Bowie-song. He mad some great songs in the 70's, but this one is from 1969. Imho he only made two songs better than this one, "Starman" and "Life on Mars".
10. The Who - The Acid Queen
Pete Townshend is not only a great songwriter and guitarist, but also a great singer. I love his voice. The Tommy-album is probably my favorite Who-album.
