Video's Of The Week - JIMI HENDRIX (cover other people's songs) Special.

VOTW - JIMI HENDRIX (cover other people's songs) Special.

This is a request from RJhog, but I'm not sure, this is what he wanted, because it's not a "Mitch Mitchel-special". I thought about doing a special, where Hendrix is covering other artists songs (not "All Along The Watchtower", though, even though I love Dylan, I don't care for that song). I'm not at all a fan of Hendrix, even though, I've tried many times, and will try again, since there's a book coming out in 2016 about Henrix by Mick Wall, that I most certainly will read.

JIMI HENDRIX - SGT. PEPPER

Hendrix, Noel Redding, and Mitch Mitchell doing “Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band” in 1967, mere days after the song’s release. “The album came out on a Friday, and by Sunday night, Jimi Hendrix learned the songs and opened his own show with a cover of the title track.”Paul McCartney was in the audience, and he couldn't believe his ears. He was very proud, that Hendrix had learned the song in only a few days.

JIMI HENDRIX - SUNSHINE OF YOUR LOVE

"Sunshine of Your Love" is a 1967 song by the British rock band Cream. With elements of hard rock, psychedelia, and pop, it is one of Cream's best-known and most popular songs. Cream bassist and vocalist Jack Bruce based it on a distinctive bass riff or repeated musical phrase he developed after attending a Jimi Hendrix concert. Here's Hendrix Experience doing their instrumental version (maybe during a bad trip for Hendrix?).

JIMI HENDRIX - JOHNNY B. GOODE

Johnny B. Goode is a posthumous live album by Jimi Hendrix released in June 1986. This release was the "mini LP" soundtrack to the VHS and laserdisc that were released at the same time. The album contains three songs from Hendrix's performance at the 1970 Atlanta International Pop Festival on July 4, 1970 and two songs from his performance at Berkeley Community Theatre on May 30, 1970.

JIMI HENDRIX - HOUND DOG

Hendrix playing Hound Dog at a party on accoustic guitar in 1968. "Hound Dog" is a twelve-bar blues song by Jerry Leiber and Mike Stoller. It was recorded by Willie Mae "Big Mama" Thornton on August 13, 1952 in Los Angeles and released by Peacock Records in March 1953. "Hound Dog" was Thornton's only hit record, spending 14 weeks in the R&B charts, including seven weeks at #1. Thornton's recording of "Hound Dog" is listed as one of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame's "500 Songs That Shaped Rock and Roll", and was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in February 2013."Hound Dog" has been recorded more than 250 times. The best-known version of "Hound Dog" is the July 1956 recording by Elvis Presley, which is ranked No. 19 on Rolling Stone magazine's list of the 500 Greatest Songs of All Time; it is also one of the best-selling singles of all time. Presley's version, which sold about 10 million copies globally, was his best-selling song and "an emblem of the rock 'n' roll revolution".

JIMI HENDRIX - 12 STRING BLUES

This is not a cover (not that I'm aware of?!), but I remember seeing this clip on the TV back in the 80's, and for the first time realizing, that Hendric actually WAS a great guitarist. Before that, I thought everything he played was pure noise. Too bad he died that early on. Just like Randy Rhoads, he would had made some GREAT music further down the road, I'm 100% sure.

Sgt. Pepper was very cool.  The sound quality wasn't the best, but Hendrix was smokin'...literally and figuratively.  It's a short performance but still awesome.  And the difference between Hendrix in the first video and the next one (Sunshine Of Your Love) is tremendous.  He must be tripping.  Or maybe it's just a more complicated piece.  Either way, his playing doesn't suffer and Redding is just unbelievable.

Can't get Johnny B. Goode to play.

Hound Dog - Could you imagine having been a guest at that party?  Somebody needed to tell those up front to shut up. I think this is the first time I've ever seen him with an acoustic guitar in his hand.  Although no version will ever be as bit as the Elvis version, this sounds great.  Just listening to that acoustic jamming is worth the price of admission here.

12 String - Two in a row on the acoustic.  Does the video portion just cut out toward the end or is it just me?  Anyway, this proves that a great guitarist doesn't always have to be flashy.  There is absolutely nothing flashy here, but still a very nice piece of work.  One that I have never seen or heard before.

This was a nice post Niels.  Keep 'em coming.

Sgt Pepper... It started and then it was over. Not sure I really liked his interpretation, though I can certainly understand being in the audience and loving it.

Sunshine of your Love... Killer bass work!  I can see a young Geddy Lee catching the bug watching something like this!

Johnny B Goode.. Try again RJ, video works fine on my side. This one just seems to be loads of fun.  The geetar riff is right on point and his playing is very solid.

Hound Dog Acoustic... It wouldn't be the sixties if an artist didn't sit in a room and play acoustically, this was a fun tune though, nice cover.

12 Bar Blues... Impressive! Love the fret board view, so natural and easy.

I'm much like Niels, not a big fan, but a fan none-the-less.  This was another fun watch!
