Wow did it get cool here in New York City!
But there was an awful lot of heat coming from that picture.
My memory is that for months after, when I would pass the remains of the World Trade Center, it was still burning in certain areas.
Those rescue workers went through a lot- brave and uncomplaining.
This time out I will tell you how I feel about the proposed community center and mosque near Ground Zero.
Want to take a guess?
And there will be songs with…

Been a while since we did one of these traditional remembrances.
Not that I forgot- 2 years ago I was doing the Salute To Radio for my 10th Anniversary that ran into Sept.11th, and last year we were getting kicked out of our radio station.
No selfishness here, New York Songs because I am a New Yorker, do a show for that station that is back and running in New York, we took the biggest hit from those nitwit islamic terrorists, and there are simply more songs about New York than any…

Here are both halves of the Sept.11th 2007 broadcast- the ONLY time my show has ever fallen on Sept.11th since it did on the fateful day.
As it happened, that show in 2001, the Beach Boys as I recall since Summer was ending, was never broadcast because the transmitter was atop one of the Twin Towers that came crashing down.
Thanks,
Mike
PART THREE
As today is September 11th, this will be a more serious chapter than the ones before it.
This is our Pearl…

Tomorrow night I will be posting Part One of this year's 9/11 remembrance with New York City Songs and more.
If you are interested, I did TWO WEEKS of shows in 2007, Sept.4 & Sept.11- the ONLY time the show has ever fallen on Sept.11th.
Here are both halves of the Sept 4th broadcast.
The Sept. 11th one will follow as the week progresses.
I thank you,
Mike
PART ONE
As we approach the 6th Anniversary of 9/11, I will continue with a tradition I started…

Did I mention Paul McCartney has said the Beach Boys' Pet Sounds was the driving force for Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band, lol?
He also has said God Only Knows is the best song ever written.
We continue with the other side of the album.
And in the interest of aural purity, I want you to know that I played the vinyl mono version of Pet Sounds for these two parts- the way Brian Wilson intended it to be heard.
Enjoy!
Here's the link to pet the Pets, at…

Since I have been on vacation, a REAL traveling around vacation, not just one from radio like before, here's an old show from 2006.
I did it for the 40th Anniversary of the Pet Sounds album, so add 4 years to everything I say, lol!
It was, and still is, a landmark album.
And it is commonly accepted as the challenge to the Beatles that resulted in Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band.
That fact alone makes it worth a listen.
Plus, even before the Beatles, the Beach Boys…

The Psychotherapy series ends with another Breakdown, then some final words from a Therapist that Love is a minefield.
No doubt about it, Love has made all of us a bit Crazy at some point in our lives.
So I decided to take the Crazy route.
And looking at all the choices I had for Crazy songs, I realized they could be a musical Genre of their own!
Several shows could be done on that Theme alone.
So it has been filed away in my memory for the future.
I hope you enjoy…

Well well, August 25 is the 12th Anniversary of my being at the same station.
12 years...those people there REALLY need Psychotherapy!
These are some of the Psychotherapy Leftovers we never got to in the other chapters, and I must tell you, this is one of the strangest half hours of musical selections I have ever done.
Certainly the most somber in those 12 years!
I just went where the free-form Muse took me, and that was a weird place.
So you are forewarned, and the…

Psychotherapy in August- the most wonderful time of the year, lol!
Try and find one.
Now in my role as "Dr. Pell", I have had a great success rate with my patients in Therapy.
But I must admit there have been failures.
And yes, they have had to be institutionalized!
I'll have their musical stories.
Then from the information I have gathered, it will be time for me to write some prescriptions.
These are controlled substances, so use great caution in taking them-…

Continuing on with our Psychotherapy series, I think I detect some smoldering Anger out there.
Hell I feel it too- I think it's that red gear in the brain above, lol!
At any rate, there is no shortage of things to get riled up about.
So a good time for all of us to take an Anger Management Class.
You can do that with music?
Sure can...by the time we get to A Musical Apology!
And here's the warm and fuzzy click-on-it link to take us there, to…

Well we have been examining some of the reasons people go to Therapy.
So far, there's been Depression and Stress.
Now we come to another major cause that is right up there- Gender Confusion.
Not that there's anything wrong with that...!
Here's the link, and you are welcome to use the restroom of your choice, at WLSO.FM:

The Doctor is back for this week's Therapy session- as your's, if you have one, is probably away on vacation for the month of August.
Making you feel very nervous and anxious.
I got you covered with a 56 to 58 minute session!
And you may not find this at all surprising- the # 1 reason for beginning Therapy is STRESS!
So a musical look at that.
Plus, despite all my training and all the Degrees I have been awarded, there are times I can't do it all by myself.
I have…

We continue for the month of August, with all the Psychotherapists on vacation- leaving their clients very nervous about that.
So I am filling in.
I promised you a Patient Profile and Diagnosis during your first visit.
Please find a seat, take these forms and fill them out- using blue or black ink ONLY!
Then we will talk a while.
Could be you are suffering from Depression.
Looks that way from here...but I shouldn't be so hasty, lol!
One of the most frequent…

Well I guess we can take the Gone Fishin' sign down for a while.
I am back with an uneasy peace.
It was great to take over a month off, I feel refreshed, and yet the thought of continuing to do this weekly is a daunting one.
As Mom used to say, we shall see what we shall see.
And naturally, being the contrarian rebel that I am, I am back with a SERIES!
Dedicated to all who don't like series, lol!
Since this show is a reflection of me and my rebellious ways, what…

I think I invented a word when I said I owe you a “tellabout” for Going Mobile, LOL!
Not much I can say about this one- it is a continuation of Who’s Next.
I didn’t know Nicky Hopkins played piano on Song Is Over.
Other than that, enjoy the rest of the album and more of my sneaky quips.
Here's the link, without which we sit around in silence, lol:

I haven’t put any of them here, but for the last few years I have been playing the Beatles and the Who albums in their entirety- and in the order they were released.
At any rate and for whatever reason, I decided to put this one up.
The Who, at their creative peak, and their undoubtedly BEST album, Who’s Next!
This LP started out as a part of Pete Townshend’s massive Lifehouse (which I highly recommend you give a listen to, if you get the chance- as much like Brian Wilson’s…

I will open this final episode in the Oldies series with my personal favorite Richie Valens song- you may or may not have heard it before, but it rocks.
For all its fearfulness to adults, early R&R did have some non-threatening figures.
I mean, how scary could Fats Domino be? He has always been just a nice man.
I have an author friend of mine, Lou Miano, who is writing a book on Louis Prima.
He is of the opinion, and there are many others who agree with him, that Prima…

Alright, now we get to some real kickass Rock & Roll!
Wailing saxes, guitars, drums, shouting vocals- OUR ROOTS!
With Cousin Brucie Morrow breathing down my neck, I felt it was only right.
He has the nerve to take my place on September 2nd, lol?
Only for one show though.
You know, most so-called Oldies stations only go back to 1964-65, as if nothing had happened before that.
That’s nonsense! There were a good 10 years of primitive, high energy R&R that in…

Moving along with our True Oldies, I am gonna open up this chapter with another interpretation of that old chestnut, Summertime- this one from 1960, by the group that did the original Barbara Ann- long before the Beach Boys.
Then a not so well known Summer song by a cat named Elvis Presley.
I hear he did some things before 1964, although you’d never know it by today’s Oldies radio.
Got a song from Frankie Lymon’s brother that only serves to remind me…oh, never mind,…

Oddly Engineer Ken and I both thought of playing some oldies, separately.
Me, because Summertime seems to be the best time to listen to them. Ken because it would be a good lead-in for Cousin Bruce Morrow, the legendary DJ who started in 1959, will be in my radio spot on September 2nd. Just the one time, joined by another old time DJ Les Marshak.
And Brucie will be plugging his new book, Doo Wop: The Music, The Times, The Era.
My opening set will be oldies dealing with Summer-…
