ROCKOLLECTIONS: MAKING A MOUNTAIN OUT OF...PT.1

We’ll begin a multi-part exploration of the music of Leslie West and Mountain.
If you are a fan of guitar playing wizardry, you should enjoy this.
Though not having anything on the charts in years, Mountain remains popular in this section of the East Coast.
And to his credit, Mr. West has lost considerable weight in the years since his heyday!
Mountain played hard rock, and were forerunners of Heavy Metal Music.
In the beginning there was no group called Mountain- that was simply the name of Leslie West’s 1969 solo album.
I leave it up to you as to why it was called that- but in my opinion it had much to do with his size.
The group name came AFTER its release.
Felix Pappalardi played bass on the LP, and produced it- and he had gained fame and fortune producing the legendary group Cream’s albums.
West was a premiere guitar player who could always get down with the blues.
He was born in New York City, raised on Long Island, and started out as a member of the Vagrants.
Interestingly, Mountain played at the original Woodstock before they were formally were known as Mountain!
They were not in the movie.
At any rate, I will be playing mostly things from that 1st technically solo West album.
Some songs perhaps never heard by you, or at least not in long while.
This series is about a band well ahead of its time.

Jon,
I was on that other site too, what an egomaniac ran that craphole!
So I am very happy here.
And the people are fantastic here, as we all share a love and passion for our music, maybe some slight differences in taste but all in the name of good old Rock & Roll!
Quality over quantity I'll ALWAYS choose.
Did you say something about a fight...I drifted off again writing to you, LOL!
Let me hear what I said first about Felix, then I'll look further into it.
Mike

Check out what happened to Felix in 1983.

That was an excellent rant and absolutely true. We should be happy though that this site is here (all because of....me! Nah, all because of Rjhog carrying over the torch from that other site that shall not be named) and it's been said before, but I'm going to say it again:

The people on this site are fantastic. No douchebags, not jackoff. Everyone that's here is here for a reason, and that's their love for classic rock. Not like other sites where people purposely try to pick fights (which I try to do, but nobody pays attention.)

Plus, rather have quality over quantity any day of the week! But we do need more people to respond to all the hard work that goes into the postings here, and not just the Top 5 stuff.

Hope nobody reads this and takes it the wrong way, cause then we'll have a fight!

RJ,
That was one helluva enviable rant!
Damn...that was worthy of my own self, lol!
Proud of you,
Mike

Jon,
That IS weird, but it's happened to me...the book just opens to the page you want!
To be honest, I don't remember and haven't listened yet to what I said about Felix Pappalardi.
But I know I did say something.
I don't know if that's a Van from here either- hell, I didn't know we HAD a Van here.
I don't seem to know anything tonight, and your questions are so HARD, lol!
Keep on learning me Jonny, lol!
You know, I actually drifted off between those last two sentences,
Mike

You know Jon, I totally agree with you.  Where the f#@! are the classic rock fans?  It's really getting a bit old.  I've been on some other sites, and they don't put up shit as far as quality classic rock talk, but they have thousands of members.  But even there, only a very small percentage of folks make comments on meaningful subjects.  Here we have 4 or 5 people that put up quality threads for discussion, and we have a tough time getting more than 3 or 4 people to comment on them.  Where the f#@! are the classic rock fans? I just don't get it.

Rant is over.

Wonder if that's Van from here?

Oh, and see what you can learn from us? You teach us stuff, we learn you stuff and we are all the smarter! Yet every time I talk music with most people, they drift off for some reason....not the people here, of course (but they too drift off...), but face to face. Kind of annoying, really.

I was checking out my Collector's Guide To 70's Heavy Metal yesterday and it opened right to Mountain (weird, huh?). It was mentioned what happened to Felix Pappalardi, something I did not know. I'll leave it to Mike so I don't ruin an upcoming show!

Me too!

And I love it when people try to guess what I am going to play, means they are thinking...plus I get to surprise them, lol!

That's awesome.  Sounds like a poker game I would be glad to participate in.
