ROCKOLLECTIONS: SALUTE TO RADIO- RADIO BEGINS

It's A Salute To Radio, marking my 15th Anniversary in a few weeks of doing a regular weekly show at the same Radio Station!
I did something similar to this 5 years ago for the 10th Anniversary.
In actual fact, I started there on August 25, 1998 as a Fill-In guy, but by October 20th 1998 I had The Rock Show, so that's why I am doing this now.
Radio is a topic that means so much to me that I am hoping this Theme series will be the BEST thing I have ever done.
When I get wrapped up in one of these Series, I am never sure how long they will go on, but this will be BIG!
For those who have never listened to my show before, now would be a perfect time to sample what I do.
My description for the way I present our Music has always been “Get on the bus with me, and I will take you somewhere- making various stops along the way.”
And so it will be with this Series.
I'll begin with a Radio Song Montage, play one of the all-time great Rock & Roll Namedropping tunes, then another that you've heard I'm sure, but may never have noticed how prominent a role the Radio plays in it...and so on so forth, doing my thing.
Included in this Opening Chapter will be some History- of this show and Radio itself.
I sincerely hope you like this.
Cause I am just getting started!

RJ,
You listened on the go, and I had no go!
My exact words to Jon, "My goddam computer crashed, was in the shop for over 3 days, and intensified my hatred for these machines!
As a result I am in one pissed off mood!"
I think what annoys me most is the strong attachment to the computer that I have to break- it's nonsense.
Anything by Joe Jackson is worth a shot at the Golden Pell.
So an easy winner for you, but as expected I would have gone with Sebastian & The Spoonful, lol!
Yes, Joe's 2nd album I'm The Man.
Wow, I don't think you ever said this, "All good music and spoken material today".
Spoken material eh?
Maybe someday I'LL get the Golden Pell, lol!
Thanks for the listen, and writing,
Mike

Not a long comment here today because I downloaded the show to my iPod and listened on the go.  But I really enjoyed this show.  I love a good history lesson, verbally and musically.

I liked that first song by The Ravens, and was gonna give it the Golden Pell...until you played that Joe Jackson song.  That was way cool.  I think you said it was on the album I'm The Man.  I may have to check that one out.

All good music and spoken material today bud.  I'll hopefully get to listen to the next part this afternoon.

I have listened to some of those RMT's and they are surprisingly good.

Nice going with the Met announcers, and I saw Kiner just over a week ago, as he was calling a game with the regular guys.

He's 89 I think and sounds it, but he still had great stories I never heard before and terrific insight into the game.

You can listen to all the RMT's on the web. I was looking for the station that it was played on, it was AM, out of New York and it also broadcast Met games if I remember correctly during the days of Ralph, Bob and Lindsey.

Jon,
No speakers were harmed during the playing of Rockollections, lol!
That Radio Montage was something I did years ago, back when doing those things was fun, and it was on tape.
I have less time and more obligations now, so I wasn't going to do it again, therefore I went to the tape and used it!
Ah the Ravyns, great song!
Now you know I am not going to tell you what I am going to play...even I am not sure, lol!
Nice list you have there, and I will say I will be dipping into those artists- of course you did leave a lot out, but lists are just lists.
Yes, Joe Jackson's debut album a classic, and I like the 2nd one just as much.
The beginning of that Jack Benny bit is him playing the violin- but come on Eileen, Dexy ain't exactly the same, lol!
I will be covering things like Radio Mystery Theater in a future episode, as Halloween nears would be best.
Nice Jon, about the hanging chads- back then they probably just wrote a guy's name on paper and dropped it in a box.
And I banjoed my way to halftime!
I want these to be the BEST shows ever.
Hate to break it to you, but the Bond one was just filler while I went looking for Radio songs, lol!
It's TRUE!
Thanks for the listen and writing, you are always Jonny on the spot and interestingly quirky lol,
Mike

Man, I have to start again....

The beginning started of really bassy. It almost blew my speakers, lucky for you I turned down the volume or you would have received a bill!

Fast Times At Ridgemont High!

As I listen to The Ravyns, I wonder if you'll play songs from Rush, The Kinks, Elvis Costello and The Clash. Maybe even The Clash? I think you played that Kinks song I'm talking about before, but it would fit in quite nicely, so I say.

Isn't Joe Jackson's debut album a classic? The followup ain't to shabby, but that debut is one of the greatest debuts.

Jack Benny pronounces the word "drama" weirdly. THIS BROADCAST IS REACHING ME!!!!! AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I thought that was the beginning of a Dexy Midnight Runner song. It wasn't. But listen to the beginning of "Come On Eileen" and the beginning of that Jac Benny bit, and they're the same!

Paint my imagination, man! I'm trying to bring back the fireside chat and bridge, but am failing miserably.

You know what I miss from radio? "Radio Mystery Theater". It was played on an AM station out of NY. Think I mentioned this before as well, but am mentioning it again.

They had elections back then? Wonder if their chads hung.

Good ole-timey banjoing. How quaint?

Best show ever? Nope. It's the Bonds. Deal with it.
