Classic Rock Bottom

Since the inaugural version was such a rousing success*, the power that be (there can be only one!) has decided it's time for another music challenge.

The rules are simple:

Starting 5/1/14 (that's May 1st of the year 2014 for those that have problems with numbers), you will have 31 (thirty-one) days to listen to 30 (thirty) albums. No, not just ANY albums, but a specific genre of albums.

Last November's challenge was easy. Five (5) albums each from the 60's (sixties), 70's (seventies), 80's (eighties), 90's (nineties) and 00's (umm....zeroes zeroes?). Simple. Those that completed that challenge were given to opportunity to pick a specific genre for the next challenge, which is THIS challenge.

So, you're probably asking yourself "What are the categories, or genres, this time?" Well, we don't know yet. We're making you wait and giving you ample time to get prepared. We're like that.

For those that complete the challenge, you'll be given the opportunity to pick a category for an upcoming challenge, just like those that completed the inaugural challenge. Yep, we're nice like that.

You can keep a running tally of your albums in this post. The only requirements are the album title, artist and what challenge category it falls into. You can also wait to post until you're done with the challenge. Either way is perfectly fine. We're easy like that.

All you need to do now is wait. Wait for the categories to appear below. Wait, but breathe. Always remember to breathe.

4. Various Artists--Saturday Night Fever

I listened to Rush Counterparts & Clockwork Angels. I believe that fulfills none of the requirements for the May challenge, but does fulfill my soul.

What a rebel!

Ok, I'm kicking it off with Cyndi Lauper - She's So Unusual...Bam, I'm In!

Nice kick-off album, Mike!

First album in the catagory 2) Listen to 5 disco and/or funk albums, soundtracks included (per Scott G.)

Stevie Wonder - Song Review - A Greatest Hits Collection

I was going to listen to the only "real" Stevie Wonder-album i've got; "Songs In The Key Of Life", but then I saw some of you guys lisened to "Greatest Hits"-albums, and I felt this was an easier listening, since SITKOL is a double-album plus an EP.

No more "Greatest Hits" for me in these catagories though.

Can we listen to more than one album by the same artist? This catagory is a pain in the butt for me, but it would help, if I could listen to one or two more Stevie Wonder-albums.

Yep, you can listen to the same artist for a whole category if you wish.

I know what you mean, Niels....I also have the Donna Summer CD set, The Ultimate Collection, which is 3 CD's worth of music.....that's why I went with Endless Summer instead.....didn't feel like listening to almost 3 and a half hours of Donna Summer!

First album in the catagory 6) Listen to 5 albums featuring a female lead singer:

The Runaways - The Runaways.

"Ch-ch-ch Cherrybomb". This could actually almost go as a punk-album, more than "London Calling"  I don't think, i've ever heard the whole album. It's quite good, well kind of. Reminds me like a cross between Suzi Quartro and The Ramones, with heavy guitar-solo's from Lita Ford. At the time, I though that the drummer Sandy West was the hottest/cutest. Hey, it could also be "..a band where at least one of the members died".

Actually, I thought, it was only Cherrie Currie, that sang all the lead, but half the songs (!!) are sung by Joan Jett. That's news to me.
