ROCKOLLECTIONS: NATIONAL RIVERS MONTH PT.3

Continuing on...National Rivers Month is a time to enjoy all of the things that Rivers bring to our communities.
Rivers provide drinking water, recreational opportunities, environmental ecosystems and wildlife habitats.
Rivers have also been used as a source of food, for transport, as a defensive barrier, and as a source of hydropower to drive machinery.
So don't pee in the River, lol!
After our opening song, a bit of humor from a late standup comic known for his deadpan delivery.
He is also known for being the voice of Frosty the Snowman in the special that is run on TV every year at Christmas.
Following that, the most perfect song imaginable to follow that story!
Then I thought I would play some songs about Real, Actual, Existing Geographical Rivers.
And I will be choosing them from Rock, Folk and anywhere else the Current carries me.

For some reason I've always liked the Snake River, just the name alone!

Sounds like a great place to journey along, and fishing relaxs the hell out of me.

Of those songs that came to your mind, I played half of them- you'll have to find out on your own which ones, lol!

I like Talking Heads, don't know why I haven't played them more often.

The Running Bear tune does bring back some memories, is a fun song, and I hope Dad is around for Fathers Day.

If you'd like I'll send it.

Black Water...ah you missed it but I didn't!
That's what I do, remember things like the Doobies, (the band that is), lol!

And you're right, there are tons of tunes written about rivers, far too many to play in 2 hours.

You liked the knowns but not the unknowns.

That happens when hearing songs for the first time, haven't lived with them long enough yet.

But this has to be a first, the Golden Pell to a comedy routine!

Nice to know that your three year old loves that Frosty The Snowman show.

And that I am still on the level of a three year old, lol!

I grew up on the banks of the Snake River basin in Idaho. Great places along that one! Lave rock mesas, Rocky Mountain peaks, white water rapids, and valley's that showcase beach like calm and sandy areas to throw out the blanket and call it a day. Great boating and recreation too... Oh, and the fishing! Some of the best in the world. Just drive a few miles and pick your sport! But I'm not biased or anything like that...

Some great songs come to my mind (apologies if these have been played, I haven't had the time to catch up on all the shows lately)

Watching The River Run - Loggins and Messina
Boat on the River - Styx
Green River - CCR
Rivers (Of The Hidden Funk) - Joe Walsh

Didn't realize that Talking Heads tune was a cover! Not a fan of the band but they have one or two that get a passing grade, that is one.

Hahaha... that Running Bear tune brings back some memories. I think my Dad played it often.

Ah - Black Water! Cant believ I missed that one when I was listing the tunes out above... Lots of tunes written after rivers that are named after locations... Mississippi, Tenessee, Rio Grande come to mind... Love the Doobies! (The Band that is).

Maybe I'm in a funk, I don't know, but this half didn't really stand out for me. There were a few well known songs (Take Me To The River, Black Water and Ferry Cross The Mersey), and I liked all of those.

But the unknowns just didn't move me today. I'll give the Golden Pell to the comedy routine by Jackie Vernon. I did enjoy the informational content, you know, that he was the voice of Frosty The Snowman. My three year old loves that movie.

Now it's on to part 2.

I don't watch those holiday shows. Full of false cheer and false messages. They just make me sick. Charlie Brown deserves that little Xmas tree, he has never proved that he needed anything else. He actually deserves no Xmas tree at all. Just sits there and whines all the time about how the world is wrong and how he can't get ahead and how he has no friends except for a rabid dog that's prone to hallucinations. Must be all those concussions from missing that football, he's now only living in a fantasy world. Wouldn't be surprised if old Charlie boy took steroids, that explains the lack of hair.

Go get 'em my man, lol!

Be news to me if somebody did Dirty Water and applied it to New York, but then I didn't know Frankie Goes To Hollywood did a cover version of Ferry Cross The Mersey.

Which I didn't really like- they took a simple catchy little song and tried to make it way over the top dramatic.

What the hell were they thinking, lol?

I could swear someone covered the "Dirty Water" song, but instead of referencing Boston, they used New York. Can't find anything about that though.

Frankie Goes To Hollywood did a cover version of "Ferry Cross The Mersey", it's no bad but it does sound very very much a product of the 80's.
