Here are the final two halves of the Trains, Planes & Automobiles series.
Hope I haven't overloaded you.
And tomorrow we begin to wrap up Thanksgiving 2010.

GETTING HOME FOR THANKSGIVING: AUTOMOBILES PT.3

Moving on down the highway in our Automobiles, as we get closer to Thanksgiving you may find yourself in a Traffic Jam.
Lots of other cars out there, so I’ll try to musically help you avoid that Road Rage.
After that, a song written by Woody Guthrie- but I doubt this is what he had in mind, lol.
Then a song from not too long ago that has always touched me- there’s just something about her situation, and the plaintive way she sings about it.
I’ll have some more car trivia for you, I think.
And then a few things about trying to start your car in the Winter- including a devastating rocker by a guy better known for his folk and country-rock efforts. This one just flat out rocks! I love it!
Finally, I will begin a look at different MODELS of Automobiles that will carry over to the next episode.
What kind of car would God drive?

ROCKOLLECTIONS: GETTING HOME FOR THANKSGIVING: AUTOMOBILES PT.4 CONCLUSION

Opening this final chapter in a 3-year series based on the great and funny movie, Trains, Planes & Automobiles, about Getting Home For Thanksgiving, I owe you a T-Bird song.
I’ll pay up.
It seems to me, I didn’t try to check any stats or anything, that I would have to say there are more songs about Chevrolets than any other Automobile.
With maybe Cadillac a distant second.
So I’ll begin a set about those great Chevys with a memory rush for people of a certain generation.
Perhaps a little older than me, but I certainly have heard it before.
Notice I said memory rush and not necessarily a pop tune!
After that, maybe we should take notice of some Mercurys, and a last look at an unidentifiable car.
We will end this sizeable series with the best Automobile advice anyone can give.
And a few final thoughts and wishes from me to you, for this most right and proper American Holiday:

May your stuffing be tasty

May your turkey plump,
May your potatoes and gravy
Have never a lump.
May your yams be delicious
And your pies take the prize,
And may your Thanksgiving dinner
Stay off your thighs!

Life is a Gift

Today before you say an unkind word- think of someone who can’t speak.
Before you complain about the taste of your food- think of someone who has nothing to eat.
Before you complain about your husband or wife- think of someone who is crying for a companion.
Today before you complain about life- think of someone who went too early.
Before you complain about your children- think of someone who desires children but they’re barren.
Before you argue about your dirty house someone didn’t clean or sweep- think of the people living in the streets.
Before whining about the distance you drive- think of someone who walks the same distance with their feet.
And when you are tired and complain about your job- think of the unemployed, the disabled, and those who wish they had your job.
And when depressing thoughts seem to get you down- put a smile on your face and be THANKFUL you’re alive and still around.

Part 3

For James Taylor, Traffic Jam was rockin' blues, lol!
That's why it gave you a little trouble.
Car Car was by Peter, Paul and Mary, and I mainly played it because it was so different from the way Woody Guthrie did it, and he wrote it.
Woody was Arlo's father by the way.
Oh that Robert Klein bit is brilliant!
Different strokes for different folks, I am crazy about Automobile by John Prine.
He's never rocked harder.
And the lyrics segued so well from Klein, " February morning, my car won't start today. I turned the key at 8:03 and the battery passed away. Inside a' my automobile".
And isn't Silver Thunderbird by Marc Cohn great? His father says God drives one, lol!

She'll have fun fun fun till her daddy takes her T-Bird away...oh yeah, a kickin' one!
You knew Setzer, you are more and more a Musicologist!
Oh right, the son of Butch Trucks, that was a pretty funny spontaneous line.
The other one that made me laugh was when Ken told me I had to break as I began something, and I said during the break I'd be "idling".
That cracked me up- see years later it's like someone else said it, a quick-witted dude, lol!
Any chance I get, I will slip Dave Edmunds in, a hige fan of his.
How about that, I accidentally played your favorite Johnny Cash song, One Piece At A Time?
I always loved that "negatory" word, and Johnny could always be funny- like when the person asks what model it is...."it's a 49,50,51,52"...
I like Chuck Berry singing "As I was motorvating over the hill" in Maybelline too.
Motorvating...a new word, lol!

Okay, I finally got to these two shows...

Part 3

James Taylor's Traffic Jam was pretty good. I recognized his voice, I just couldn't quite figure out it was him until you said so.

I'm not sure if you said the comedy song was by Peter, Paul and Mary or just Peter. It was okay, but I really liked the comedy bit by Robert Klein, and I actually thought that was who that was. Make sense? Starting The Car In The Winter cracked me up.

I wasn't crazy about the John Prine song, but the guitar solo was terrific.

And Silver Thunderbird by Mark Cohen was good. It's almost as much about a son reminiscing about his father as it is about a Thunderbird. And songs like that are always good.

Part 4

Always liked the Beach Boys Fun Fun Fun. What a killer song.

You played parts of a bunch of Chevy songs, and I actually recognized Brian Setzer. I loved the Son Of A Butch comment. That was funny.

As for the Mercury songs, I figured you'd play Alan Jackson's version of Crazy 'Bout A Mercury, but you slipped Dave Edmunds in there. Nice job.

And you played it. My favorite Johnny Cash song. I love One Piece At A Time. I love his spoken part at the end with the "negatory" comment and when the person asks what model it is...."it's a 49,50,51,52"...and so on. Just a great song by The Man In Black.
