Classic Rock Bottom

Going to do something a bit different here. This is a list of SOME of the best of something (limited to 10 songs per list, of course).

It's something I will continue.

It's something you can participate in with a list of your own.

All the songs have something in common, it's up to you to figure out what that is. If you can't, then you can't post. No crying and whining. You just can't.

I'm not saying that the 10 featured here are the 10 best. Again, they are SOME of the best (IMHO, of course), so don't say "how dare you not include _________." It's ongoing. It's gonna continue. It's like "The Neverending Story" (which actually DID end) of IMHO lists.

So here's the first 10....

1. Warren Zevon--Lawyers, Guns And Money

2. Deep Purple--Space Truckin'

3. UFO--Love To Love

4. Rush--La Villa Strangiato

5. Led Zeppelin--When The Levee Breaks

6. Thin Lizzy--Roisin Dub (Black Rose) A Rock Legend

7. Accept--Bound To Fail

8. Pete Townshend--Gonna Get Ya

9. Shooting Star--Last Chance*

10. Robert Plant--Network News

...which you can listen to HERE

*someone might question this, and I have an answer.

I work from home 4 out of 5 work days, and today its very quiet since most people took a long weekend after a bank holiday. So I'm listening intently to this one and have formulated an opinion...

I think the theme of the tracks has to do with expeditions, either legal or illegal, to strange or foreign/alien places. Journeys that take the person to somewhere they cant get out of, though they are desperate to try and escape (That's the Last Chance tie in I think). That's my take.

Musically, I very happy to listen through this. I didn't know you knew Shooting Star, they get panned when I post them on this board, but I will keep trying. And Metal Health is the best Accept IMHO. The Townsend track was awesome and the Zevon track was great!

So, am I in the ballpark?
Man, you are not even close. It's actually quite simple.....but I do like your thoughts.

Here's a clue:

Think outside the box.

There is kind of a clue in one of the song titles (not planned that way)

Funny thing is, I debated whether to post the song titles. I almost had each song listed on the player as a mystery song since posting & showing the titles seems to give it away.
ah man! Maybe expedition was the wrong word... "Desperation and Escape" may be more appropriate... but thats within the same line of thinking I had earlier, I will need to noodle on this one...
Yeah, close those thoughts out of your head. Clear your mind and THINK.
Wow, it's a long time since I heard anything from Accept's "Metal Heart". I like(d?) that album a lot.

Pete Towshend is as cool as ever. He's my favorite rock-star of all time!!

Nice song from the late Warren Zevon.

And of course "When the levee breaks", one of the best songs from Zeppelin.

Nice list, Jon.

I have NO idea, what the songs have in common, though!!??
This is a tough one. First, I really liked the playlist. There's only two songs that I know (Space Truckin' and When The Levee Breaks). Everything else was new. I really liked the Warren Z. tune, UFO and Shooting Star (Scott, I know I haven't been big on them in your posts, but this song was really good, so I'd love to hear more at some point). The only song I disliked was Accept. They're just not my kind of band. Now on to my theory.

These are my scribbled notes as I listened. My first thought was of the Cold War. Spies, Russians, satellites and outer space. But I didn't think the second half supported that theory. So my best guess would be something to do with a relationship, running, looking for a girl, thinking you can't win, but being determined a knowing it's your last chance. The news thing at the end didn't quite fit, unless the theme is of a stalker who finally gets to his victim and ends up on the news.

I had to try to listen to this at home so I could concentrate, I knew I wouldn't be able to do so at work tomorrow.
Wow.
Too much?
I think so....two things will happen. When everyone finds out what it is, they'll either say "OH!" or hunt me down and maim me.
So do we ever get the answer???
Well, I'm going to post a Part Deux in a couple days. Something has got to ignite something in someone's mind and they'll figure it out. I think the second part MIGHT be easy tying everything together but then again, I thought it would have been figured out by one of the songs on this list.

Yep, I'm being a total turd.
It doesn't have anything to do with Phil Spector does it?
