This week's Album Of The Week is a classic. It's Are You Experienced by The Jimi Hendrix Experience. Tidbits:
Honestly, I could go on and on and on quoting Wikipedia. The write up on this album is huge. Instead, here is the link (Are You Experienced) if you are so inclined to read it. I think it's safe to say that this album is regarded as one of the all-time great debut rock albums. It's a little confusing as far as differing track listings from different countries, but that happened quite often back then. Either way, you get some great playing, none better than on the song Fire if you ask me. Hendrix aside, Mitchell and Redding are amazing on that song.
For me, I've always been partial to Jimi's hits. You can probably tell that from my Top 5 songs list above. But I will say that I've heard a few songs, mostly featured on Rockollections by Mike Pell, that were new to me and were quite good. The question is, what do you think of this album and/or the band? Do you own it? Original vinyl or the CD version?

Never owned it and never heard it in its entirety
Do I own this? Yes. On CASSETTE. Thought I had it on CD, but guess not. But at least I own it.
I don't see how anyone could not like this album. It's a classic, period. Not a bad song on the whole album.
That's all I have to say because I am annoyed that I can't do anything else on this site.
Have this on vinyl. Got the greatest hits on CD, and have purchased several of the "newer" Hendrix releases of studio demos, out takes, unreleased stuff, etc. And I like all 3 of those CD's, but can only remember the names of "South Saturn Delta", and "Valleys Of Neptune". Got them new with very good prices.
Strangely enough, as a kid, I only liked a few songs from this album. Now, I like them all and Jimi is one of my favorites...and one of the greatest of all time. Including his lyric writing.
Not sure why I was expecting more of a harder rock edge, but was surprised at how bluesy this is. In a good way! Hey Joe is my favorite track but of those that I am not familiar with, I really enjoyed Third Stone From The Sun for its melodicness mixed with (dare I say) jazz/prog? And then I Don't Live Today for its fun geetar work.
I reserve comment on the radio played tunes as they still get considerable attention on Classic Rock radio.
The bonus tracks weren't bad either. Red House has a Clapton feel to it, even though the tempo is much slower there's something Crossroadsy about it. Listen close. Can You See Me has Who feel to it, really cool tune! Remember is playful. These 3 bonus track are really good! Why were these not included originally?
Nice post! Glad I finally got to hear this one!
