Classic Rock Bottom

Been sittin' on this for awhile because I know its hard to listen to all the great stuff being posted, but I wanted to try this BEST OF forum.  This was actually the second idea I had for a BEST OF IMHO post.  Originally I was gonna post Rush tracks, but I think the spirit of this forum is a bit different than pick what you think are the ten best from a band.  So this is my twist...

Welcome back to the NEW WAVE ERA...

1 - The Cars, Good Times Roll - 1978

2 - A Flock of Seagulls, I Ran - 1982
3 - Gary Numan, Cars - 1979
4 - Level 42, Something About You - 1985
5 - Missing Persons, Destination Unknown - 1982
6 - Modern English, I Melt With You - 1982
7 - The Romantics, What I Like About You - 1980
8 - Til Tuesday, Voices Carry - 1985
9 - The Fixx, Red Skies - 1982
10- Tears For Fears, Everybody Wants to Rule the World - 1985

And a Guilty Pleasure...
They're a one hit wonder named Haircut 100.  The track is titled "Love Plus One".  Really, I still can't figure why I like this song, it cheesy in every way, the video is awful, and the song is way to poppy. But when VH1 did a Bands Reunited for Haircut 100 I reconnected with it and found I still liked it.  D'OH!

Honorable mentions...
* Billy Idol - Hot In The City (See SHT 19)
* Cyndi Lauper - Money Changes Everything
* Buggles - Video Killed The Radio Star
* Howard Jones - New Song
* Romeo Void - Girl In Trouble (is a Temporary Thing)

PS: Obvious omissions, because I don't like their music...
Duran Duran, Eurythmics, The Police, A-Ha, Human League, Thomas Dolby, Wang Chung.

I'm still gonna do the Rush Best of, just a little later than originally planned...

Interesting playlist Scott. I recognize 7 of the 10 official songs and I'm looking forward to listening. SHT19 and this are in my sights for tomorrow at work.

I also think your "obvious omissions" list is interesting. I disagree (respectfully, of course) on Duran Duran. I think, although quite poppy, those boys had some good songs. I also would love to have seen Wang Chung's "To Live And Die In L.A." on your list. But it's your list and I'll enjoy it anyway.
I'm not THAT big a fan of the New Wave-era, but there are some great tunes, of course.

I'm looking forward to listen. I really like "I ran" from A flock of seagulls.
Man, I felt like I was back in the 80's. That was cool. Mostly very good choices Scott. I said earlier I was familiar with 7, but that should have been 8. I recognized the Level 42 song when I heard it, not by title.

One other thing I'd like to point out. I love the lyric in the Tears For Fears song that says," I can't stand this indecision/married with a lack of vision". I've never noticed that before but that is a great lyric. We had a "great lyrics" thread on CRR, maybe we should start one on CRB...
It reminds me of the music my big sister played in her room, while I played Iron Maiden and Judas Priest in my room. Later in life, I liked that kind of music much more, than at the time, well some of it:

I don't like Level 42, I don't know, the wrong kind of Pop-music, I guess. Don't like Til Tuesday, either.

I had'nt heard Missing Persons before, but I kind of liked it. The Romantic's song is also good.
The Fixx has been listening to U2 and Simple Minds, but I like the sound.

Oh, and Tears For Fears are a great band!! Great song.
Where's Berlin? Or The Go-Gos? Or Joe Jackson? Oingo Boingo?

As for your omissions list, I disagree (disrespectfully, of course) to The Police, Eurythmics and The Human League.

Other than that, decent picks. And I used to hate most of this stuff when it first came out.
