BEST OF QUEEN (IMHO)...FORGET THE HITS!

Rjhog kind of forced me to do this so here goes.....my list of the 10 best Queen songs, staying away from the hits everyone knows. There's really no rhyme or reason why Ilike these the most (and it does change) but for today, here's what I consider to be their 10 best.

 

All have the familiar Queen trademark: the layered vocals and guitars. These songs especially feature some blistering fretwork from Brian May. I've included two from "Jazz", an album that is really under the radar for a lot of people but the two feature some smoking guitar work. One song that will always be tops on my list is "Dragon Attack" especially when listening to it with headphones; there's so many layers to the music, so much going on in the background that it's truly amazing. 

 

Well, amazing to me at least.

 

Last thing...this was not going to be my first IMHO list. I have something special that may take a list or two (or three). Won't a 10 best of list but will be an ongoing SOME of the best of (whatever the topic will be). Stay tuned!

Just a quick glance at the list and I totally agree with Dragon Attack. That's a killer song. I'll listen to this later and give you my 2 cents worth.

I love Queen, especially from 1974-1980. But I would NEVER make a playlist without the greatest song of all time "Bohemian Rhapsody", but it's of course your list, Jon, and there's some great songs on it.

I'll be looking forward to your next couple of IMHO-list's!!

Here's the thing with me and "Bohemian Rhapsody": It's a great song, no doubt. However, "Wayne's World" ruined the song for me.

So ignoring the hits makes this a really cool Hidden Treasures type of list. Admittedly, I don't own a lot of Queen. I have the 2 greatest hits discs, Made In Heaven and The Cosmos Rock with Paul Rodgers. This list is pretty cool, I'm going to go back and listen to some early Queen in the next few weeks.

Like it or not, here's my take:

Songs I'm Familiar With:

Dragon Attack
Let Me Entertain You
Now I'm Here
It's Late
Dancer

I like all of these. Dragon Attack would be my favorite, but Dancer is a real close second. I think (Jon can correct me if I'm wrong) that Dancer is from Hot Space. Although that album has a few songs that tend to be dance type tunes, I still like it. It's Late is very cool as well.

The Others:

Dead On Time (Like it)
The March Of The Black Queen (Can't get into this one, my least favorite on the list)
Sweet Lady (Like it - easily my favorite of the songs I'm not familiar with)
The Prophet's Song (Like part of it - I thought this might be my fave until that middle part)
I Go Crazy (can take it or leave it)

Overall this was a cool listen Jon. Queen is very talented at all positions, but sometimes their music is a little tough to listen to. I like them and have pretty much every album, but I'm not positive I could come up with 10 unknown's that, in my opinion, are great. Actually, I probably could.

Yep, it's from the much hated "Hot Space". Not hated by me though.

I hate "Hot Space". It was SUCH a disapointment after the classic album "The Game".

I don't think it is. They were going a certain route but nobody cared (at least in the US). I like it much better than "The Works". I remember having a walkman and listening to the "Hot Space" cassette day after day after day, so I kind of have a special place in my heart for it.
