I'm sure, we've done this before, but never mind:
Which bands has never made albums better than their debut-album, I mean in your opinion.
I'll start out:
Van Halen
King's X
Guns'N'Roses
Cheap Trick
The Doors
Jimi Hendrix
Foo Fighters
Iron Maiden
King Crimson
Ozzy Osbourne
Pearl Jam
The Ramones
Sex Pistols (Duh!)
Tesla
Tags:
Boston
The Cars
Joe Jackson
The Go-Go's
Dio
Ted Nugent
Asia
Angel Witch
Diamond Head
The Arc Angels
If we are doing this based on the margin between how great their debut was and how good their next best album was, Boston and GNR would probably win hands down.
I'll pull two off of that list: Van Halen and GNR. I can't make a fair assessment on The Doors or Hendrix because they were before my formative years. VH and GNR were in my sweet spot for timing. And as much as I love VH, I think I'll pick GNR's Appetite For Destruction. It was simply light years ahead of everything else that was being released at that time (I don't mean 1987 necessarily, but the late 80's as a whole).
Oops, I misread this and thought you wanted the one best debut. Hmmm...
Some I've always loved that I don't see mentioned...
By the way... this weeks AOTW wasn't to shabby either! Probably could be mentioned at least
Disagree on Loverboy. I prefer Get Lucky to the debut.
Close - but for me, if I had to pick, I'd take their debut...
Just about everything I can think of has already been listed by you purveyors of excellent rock n roll.
I'll add in:
Lynch Mob
Michael Schenkers MSG debut
Starz
...and that's about all I can add at the moment.
But, of course...OF COURSE...I have to respectfully disagree with a few nominations above. Although a great album, I don't agree with Nugent...I think maybe Free For All is just slightly better. And also King's X..."Tape Head" is their best IMO. And I'm on the fence about Maiden...very close call on that, just like Uncle Ted. Good discussion!
