Classic Rock Bottom

Here it is, finally, a snippet at least of something new from Van Halen.  "She's The Woman" was played last night at The Cafe Wha?  The band played a short but sweet set of classics from the DLR era and included this new song, which is a left over from the early days.

First, here is the complete set list from the show:

1. You Really Got Me
2. Runnin’ With The Devil
3. Somebody Get Me A Doctor
4. Everybody Wants Some
5. She’s The Woman
6. Dance The Night Away
7. Panama
8. Hot For Teacher
9. Ice Cream Man
10. Ain’t Talkin Bout Love
11. Jump

...and here is the video:

So what do you think?

I think this:

1. Best DLR vocals in years...you can't hear him.  I wonder if it will sound like that on the album.

2. For all of Eddie's past greatness, maybe Alex and Wolfgang are the best musicians in the band now.  The bass sounds pretty hot.

Let me qualify those statements 'cause I don't like the way I sounded when I read them back:

I was being sarcastic.  Like Scott, I'm pumped as well, but still worried a bit about the quality of DLR's vocals.  I've always liked them throughout the golden years ('78-'84), but I didn't care for them at all on the two originals that appeared on the greatest hits album.  I love his brand of screaming and just singing in his own voice, and to me, it sounded like he was trying to be a "great" vocalist on the greatest hits album.

For the awful quality at least I get a sense of the direction, and for me this sounds like it woudl fit very nicely into the Fair Warning timeframe, and for me thats the best era!!!!  Now Im pumped!

Just read an article on the local newspapers web page (http://obsthisjustin.blogspot.com/2012/01/van-halen-plans-return-to...), VH will be hitting Charlotte in April, so Im gonna be trying to score those tickets, but the article mentioned that the opening band would be Kool and The Gang.  WTH?

Dont get me wrong, I like Kool and the Gang for the genre they fit into, but as an opener for VH?  Weird...

That may be a meet-up show.  I'd like to bring my son to it as well.

sounds good, the last show they did here sold out in minutes so it may take some coordination to pull it off.

I will keep my eye out for ticket sales and get back to you...

Cool.  I definitely want to go, so if you get access to two additional tickets, he and I will definitely go.  I'll gladly send money asap!

Hey, maybe Gordon would be interested as well, since he's in Atlanta.

send him a note so we can plan...

I don't have an issue with Dave or his vocals. This sounded pretty good, much better than anything from III, but that's not saying much I suppose. VH to me will always be DLR on vocals (yes, and Michael Anthony but Wolfgang is not a slouch) so I'm deinitely pumped.

And it kind of makes sense with Kool and the Gang, kind of. When they came here they had Ky-Mani Marley as the opening act and she (they) were pretty good, not hard rock at all though

As for the two song with DLR on the Best Of package? Me Wise Magic still kicks ass, Can't Get This Stuff No More was just ok.
