Honoured: Paul Stanley

The Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame have finally confirmed the induction of Kiss – 15 years after they became eligible for the honour.

It follows their victory in the public poll, which saw 240,000 people casting their vote for Paul Stanley, Gene Simmons and co.

And despite having spent years pouring scorn on the industry establishment, Stanley says in a statement: “I’m honoured to be inducted knowing we have remained true to ourselves and our fans.”

Also to be inducted at the ceremony in New York in April are Nirvana, Peter Gabriel, Hall And Oates, Cat Stevens and Linda Ronstadt. The E Street Band will receive the Award For Musical Excellence, while late Beatles manager Brian Epstein and former Rolling Stones boss Andrew Loog Oldham will be given the Ahmet Ertegun Award for non-performers.

Rock Hall chief exec Joel Peresman says: “The Kiss Army has descended on us in recent years, and we’ve gotten thousands of letters. They also did extremely well in the public vote.”

Peresman’s next problem is choosing a track for the musicians to perform during the traditional end-of-night jam. “We have visions going through our heads,” he says. “Should it be Rock And Roll All Nite or a Bruce Springsteen song? What’s the best way to represent it? We don’t know yet.”

Simmons had previously insisted he didn’t want to invite former Kis... but in a brief statement he said: “To the Kiss Army, Ace, Peter, Eric Carr, Vinnie, Mark, Bruce, Tommy and Eric Singer, Bill Aucoin, Doc McGhee; to my partner of forty years, the ever youthful Paul Stanley, and all the members of the Kiss family: this honour is for you. forty years of rockin’ and still going strong.”

oh.

Very interested in how Gene and Paul will work with Ace and Peter when they play and accept the award. Also wondering if Eric Carr will get some love beyond the mention he gets in the statement...

I'm thinking just the original 4 will be inducted, with the others receiving mentions.  I will not be amused if Paul and Gene minimize Ace and Peter's contribution.  They need to put aside their differences and play 3 songs together, period.  Nothing else is acceptable to me.

Yeah, remember the fiasco involving Blondie a few years back at the induction ceremony. Deb Harry pretty much refused to allow two of the original members on stage with her.

Same with Fogerty and CCR.

I just read an interview that Gene did with Rolling Stone mag.  I'm pretty sure the original 4 will play at least a song or two together.  Please, please, please...don't let one of 'em be Beth.  They should do:

Detroit Rock City

Deuce

Cold Gin (Ace on vocals)

Black Diamond

...then close the show with everybody doing RARAN.  Especially if Springsteen sings the first verse.

That sounds good enough for me, but what about letting them sing a song each:

Detroit Rock City

Deuce

Shock Me

Hard Luck Woman

Now we only need to get Cheap Trick in as well. I'm not much of a Deep Purple-fan, and I'm sure, they'll be in next year anyway.

My four has 'em all singing too.  Peter sings the majority of Black Diamond and since Ace wrote Cold Gin but was afraid to sing it back then, he can sing it now.

What would be awesome is if they player "The Elder" in it's entirety.

I would love to hear them player that.

I just read the interview as well. I liked the story about the swimming-accident. I'm sure it's the truth. It would suit Gene, thought, to accept that for most people, KISS are Gene, Paul, Ace & Peter, and Ace & Peter are not just Gene & Paul's "first marriage" or kids of that marriage or whatever. Thayer and singer are as interesting as Van Halen jnr. on bass.

Looks like I might have to make a run through the catalog...

I am not a big KISS fan personally, but I was thrilled they finally got in. I felt like having Alice Cooper got in, that KISS would be next (it took another three years so I was beginning to wonder). The RNRHF is still pretty much a joke. There aren't many hard rock bands in the Hall and progressive rock seems to get ignored even more.
