Classic Rock Bottom

The tour commences, only because I am now in it only for the money.

And now I really need the money........

It's been a pretty mellow winter here so I decided to work on some of our farm equipment. Sadly, after drinking way too many Zima's, I had a slight accident while working on the thrasher and now I have no eyelids.

It's very hard to be on stage and being unable to blink because the noxious PBR fumes are too overpowering. Now I can't blink back the tears so everyone thinks I'm crying because I'm happy. I'm only crying because I can't blink back the damn tears!

Luckily I found a doctor on Craig's List who supposedly specializes in eyelid attachment. However, the price is astronomical and there's only so much corn I can sell so I'm stuck with this tour until I make enough money to have the surgery.

This week's album is the 1983 release from Blackfoot titled "Siogo". Not the album cover and the absence of a animal. Wonder why since the previous three albums had a snake, a kitty and a birdy. Guess we'll never know.

The album before that has an Airplane.

The best song on it is the first "Feeling Good", but sadly this release is not on Itunes or Spotify.

I found a few Blackfoot on vinyl, there are some good songs. I listened to this one online and I thought it kinda sounded like Rainbow. Not really a bad release, I guess.

Yep, this is their second release, "Flyin' High".

Yes, and I meant I listned to Siogo on Spotify and thought it sounded like Rainbow. :)

I have...

1976  Flying High Vinyl - wish this was on Itunes so I could download the first song

1979  Strikes CD - I have not listened to this yet

1980  Tomcattin - Vinyl - I like a few songs, Spending Cabbage.

1981  Marauder - CD and Vinyl - Good Morning! :)

I first heard Blackfoot when Highway Song hit the airwaves and soon after Train Train aksio was being played.  Certainly helped my purchasing decision when I seen the Cobra cover!  I lost touch with the band after Marauder and then picked them back up when Vertical Smiles came out, and then completely lost touch with them ...

Medlocke is a great front man and better geetarist!  Seen him live and he has a stage presence thats pretty darn cool!

This album is a bit on the pedestrian side for me, Run For Cover comes close, but nothing is standing out as great!  Theres the obligatory geetar solos that are solid, and some cool riffage.  Nice rhythm section as well, but nothing special.  This was a nice listen though, I think the band burned out and faded away, of course it probably didnt help to get a call to join Skynyrd again.

You have Vertical Smiles?

Vinyl, I havent re purchased on CD

Something tells me I didnt answer the question correctly...

I've been wanting to get that album for a long, long time, especially for their version of Livin' In The Limelight.

Oh, and you guys are sick!

That tune is a Peter Cetera remake, you know that right?

Yep, have the Cetera CD with that song, just have always been curious what the Blackfoot version sounded like.

What a strange album.  Not bad, just strange.  The first half sounds like a band trying to sound like Bon Jovi, but that's definitely not it since Bon Jovi didn't release an album until 1984.

To me, the first song that sounds like Blackfoot is White Man's Land.  And that's a terrific song, my favorite on this album.  But I do like some of the stuff in the first half as well.  Didn't the Scorpions have a song called Send Me An Angel?  I like this one better.  Track 2 sounds kinda like .38 Special.  And the guitar and keyboard riff at the beginning and during the chorus of We're Going Down is very reminiscent of Double Vision.

Overall, this is definitely better than I was expecting.  I do like Medlocke's voice a lot.
