KIM FOWLEY DIES AT 75

Kim Fowley, a producer who co-wrote songs with Kiss and Alice Cooper, has died at 75 after a long battle with bladder cancer.

The well-traveled Fowley oversaw sessions for Warren Zevon, the Modern Lovers (which featured future members of the Talking Heads and the Cars), the recently deceased Paul Revere and Soft Machine, while also co-writing songs with Leon Russell. He managed the Runaways, featuring the young Joan Jett and Lita Ford, and even appeared as a sideman on Frank Zappa‘s barrier-breaking 1966 album ‘Freak Out!’

Billboard confirmed his passing via Ralph Peer of Peer Music and author Harvey Kubernik.

Fowley did the initial production work on Zevon’s 1969 debut ‘Wanted Dead or Alive.’ He co-wrote ‘Escape’ for Alice Cooper’s 1975 album ‘Welcome to My Nightmare,’ and both ‘King of the Night Time World’ and ‘Do You Love Me’ for Kiss’ 1976 project ‘Destroyer.’

He also memorably once offered Axl Rose $50,000 in cash to leave his then-unsigned group — only to be turned down when Rose chose to stay with Guns N’ Roses.

Yeah, I remember his name from the 70's, from Destroyer but especially regarding The Runaways. RIP, Mr. Fowley.
