Classic Rock Bottom

With the resounding success of last week's "Faith" album, I have a feeling this is going to go on for a very long time! Thanks to all who participated last week with your loving comments, it was much appreciated and instills, well, FAITH in what I do!

Our second album in this series (which will hopefully never end) is the 2008 release from Crown Of Thorns, titled......."Faith"! For those that are really picky about facts, this was released in the U.S. in 2009 with bonus tracks, and is the version featured here.

Headed by Jean Beauvoir (ex-Plasmatics), this is very melodic and also very heavy at some points. The only drawback is it SOMETIMES verges on Bon Jovi territory with some of the songs, but when these guys rock out, they seriously rock out.

Jean Beauvoir has some pretty heavy musicland credentials which you can read about here.  The only drawback is that he's actually worked with a band that I will not mention here for fear of having this post dissolve into something from my darkest nightmares. I shudder just thinking about it.

The first time I heard a song frm this band was while I was listening to an overseas melodic rock radio station and they played the title song from this album. I dug it, so I bought it as well as a couple other albums. This one I like the best, for those wondering.

The lead geetaring is quite nice, provided (mostly) by Tommy Lafferty. Jean also plays lead on a few songs, but the booklet really doesn't explain who does what. Regardless, strong playing throughout the album, for those that like geetar, you'll probably like this, especially the tracks that rock.

So, a little something for everyone?

I'll say it for you.  He is the co-writer for Thrills In The Night, Uh! All Night and Who Wants To Be Lonely.  The former and latter of those two being two of the best songs in the 80's catalog of the greatest band in the land.

Crap. Now this post has just fallen into the deepest darkest depths of deep darkness ever known by man.

Didnt he also do some collab with N'Sync? That would be way worse in my book!

Absolutely not!

How do you go from The Plasmatics to N'Sync? My mind can't grasp any of that...

......or from The Plasmatics to that band that shan't be named?

I like this week's Faith album better than last weeks.  I had a cassette of JB's at one time, in the 80's I'm pretty sure.  I think I bought it because I liked those 3 Kiss songs so much and something he had out at the time was really good as well.  I believe it might have been Drums Along The Mohawk, as that album cover on Amazon looks familiar.  But there's no tracklisting there or on Wiki for me to see if anything rings a bell.

Anyway, the first five tracks here are terrific.  Even track 4, which is the first one in which I hear the Bon Jovi sound.  I still like the song, as I am a fan of the old Bon Jovi stuff.  Track 5's opening riff really reminds me of The Smithereens.  Track 6 is the first song I don't like.  Same for the next track.  These two really bog the album down.  But it recovers on tracks 8 and 9.  On that 9th song, I get a Steve Perry vocal feel and a Bon Jovi musical feel.

The rest is a bit bland.  Nothing special on the cover song.  I'm assuming that tracks 12, 13 and 14 are the bonus tracks?

This is definitely an album I wouldn't mind having.  I'll start keeping my eyes open for it when I go to the used CD store.

Nice pick this week.  It will be tough to follow next week, I wonder if you can be successful in that venture?

Drums Along The Mohawk

1. Feel the Heat
2. Never Went Down
3. Missing the Young Days
4. Rockin' in the Street
5. Sorry I Missed Your Wedding Day
6. Drive You Home
7. Same Song Plays on and On
8. This Is Our House
9. If I Was Me
10. Nina

The last three are the bonus tracks, decided to include them just for fun. Or I forgot to delete them.

I think I might top this with next week's "faith" inspired album!

No bells ringing from that track listing, but I'm sure I had something of his solo on cassette.

Somehow I think this is Jon's way of paying homage to N'Sync and their 90 second reunion which was overshadowed by the porn laden Hannah Montana performance.  It must be upsetting to Jon that NSync got upstaged...

Now lets get back to The Plasmatics...  I seen them perform on the old comedy sketch shows "Fridays" (anyone else remember that?)

good thing I'm here to refresh your memories...  Somewhere between here and this album was an N'Sync respite...  Now listen the album Jon posted and tell me how he got here?  c'mon, I'm waiting.... Because I have no clue...

This was a good listen though, nothing ear-shattering, but very pleasant and Non-Plasmatics or N'Sync-ey

Fridays? Of course. Michael Richards, Melanie Chartoff, Larry David had something to do with it as well, Rich Hall and that's all I can remember off the top of my head. But they're more well-known for the Andy Kaufman skit, I actually saw that and had no clue what was going on since I was a young 'un.

Hey, you  can now buy it on DVD!
