Classic Rock Bottom

After last week's pick (which nobody liked, damn them all!) I sat in my cell trying to figure a way to get bck in everyone's good graces. Luckily, during my daily time in the yard, I had an ephiphany...why not feature a well-known band this week? All signs pointed to "YES" on that. Next thing was to pick what band and what album and I came up with this one:

Supertramp, "Brother Where You Bound", released in 1985.

When "Breakfast In America" came out, I absolutely loathed Supertramp. Couldn't stand any songs on the radio and they were a bunch from that album getting significant airplay. A year later, thelive album "Paris" came out and the song "Dreamer" was played a bunch on the radio, and I liked it.

So I revisited Supertramp, and found that I liked "Breakfast...", so I picked up more of their stuff and found that "Crime Of The Century" is a fantastic album. So I was sold.

1982 came the release of "...famous last words.." and I hated that album. Hated that song about rain, and still do, because it seemed silly and stupid. Luckily I still had "Crime.." and "Breakfast.." to fall back on

Come 1985, I was in a record store and saw this album. I figured what the hell, couldn't be any worse then their last album so I stole it and ran home to give it a listen. And listen I did, for a couple weeks straight since it is that good.

Sans Roger Hodgson who had left the group, this is prog rock. Even features David Gilmour on the title track, a whopping 16+ minutes. Good stuff I say! And that's the last new Supertramp release I bought since this didn't sell particularly well and, even though there were some more new albums, you just didn't hear about them too much.

Oh wait, I lied. I picked up "Some Things Never Change" when it came out in 1997, and didn't like it.

MSoTW is gonna stump you. I think Niels MIGHT get it. Rjhog, no way. Scott, doubtful. Good luck!

(Note: I was actually going to take more time writing about thi album, but something's going on so I can't delete and have to retype everything if there's an error. Deal with it!)

Yep, I know what MSoTW is, but I'll give Scott a chance, and maybe RJhog?
Yeah, Rjhog. That's funny.
Hey, hey, hey! I resemble that friggin' remark...

Actually, I know exactly who that is.

Just kiddin'...no clue.

But, if it makes you feel any better (probably not), I'm really looking forward to this LAOTW. All I know from Supertramp would be their hits, none of which appear on this album. I'll probably listen to it at one of my next couple of midnight feedings.
Crap, you scared me there for a second. Thought I would have to respect you or something.
no idea... but the its sounds somewhere in line with Spocks Beard or Marillion... But thats the best Im gonna guess...

Love Brother Where you Bound!! Own it... Theres not much in the Supertramp catalog I dont like. I even like Famous Last Words though I must agree that that rainign song is the weakest on it... Have you heard Crazy from that LP? Great tune!

Nice post Jon..
Thank you? I feel you have an ulterior motive or something dark you're about to spring...

I'll check out "Crazy" but that album is just so damned mellow, no spunk.
I listened to Brother Where You Bound late last night, and it's just okay in my book. I did like the third track a good bit, and the fourth track as well. The rest is on the lower side of okay for me. I am glad to listen though. Thanks for posting Jon.
Can I EVER please you? Why must you hate everything I put up? Why, why, why???????

It's Kiss payback, isn't it!
Do you have any lost Kiss albums?
Nooooooooooooooooo.
Actually, you pleased me with Kansas, Heart, Aerosmith, Paul Dean and The James Young Group.
And that's all I here for. To please you.
