Classic Rock Bottom

Ahh....Planet P Project. This undertaking from Tony Carey had a minor hit back in 1983 with the song "Why Me?". Whenever this song was played on the radio or the video on MTV, the whole family would get up and dance, dance, dance! We just loved the song so much that, no matter what we were doing, we would drop it and started to dance. We were Wang Chunging before anybody knew what Wang Chunging was.

I was in surgery having a birth defect removed (an external heart for those wondering) when the song came on and my mother grabbed me from the operating table and we started to dance and then my father and 12 brother and 3 sisters joined in and had so much fun twirling and whirling that nobody noticed that the external heart fell off on its own. When the song was over I was tossed back on the operating table and the doctors were amazed that the external heart had disappeared!

There was another time when we were eating little cakes while watching tv and the video came on

HOLD ON!

Hi everyone! This is Scott. I'm taking over this over because this is some of the stupidest garabge I have ever read in my life. Jon's an idiot, pure and simple. Just forget what you've read above and read the REAL post about this fine, fine album.

Here's goes:

Originally released as a double album. Pink World is a war themed effort revolving around a boy who can’t talk. It is very good musically, and in typical Planet P fashion it is heavy on programmed drums and synths, but with nice layers of guitars and quality vocals. Side one introduces us to a boy who can’t talk, and whose room goes pink. We learn about his visions of some sort of Armageddon. The people of the little nowhere town begin to desire the information the boy has, and as we listen to side 2, they all begin to follow him to safety, literally behind a barrier as the pink world comes down. Side 2 is kind of a dark listen, slow and droning as the sheepish people blindly follow the boy who can’t talk...

Side 3 opens with a short instrumental titled Breath, and then goes into a nice rocker title A Perfect Place about a man wanting revolution. I assume the people are still behind the barrier and going a bit stir crazy, Anyway, it appears this guy is a threat to the boy whom all are worshipping at this point, so he is taken away and the boy is praised in the next track. The community pulls together and Armageddon passes, the boy Artie, then leaves them a gift in the orphanage and is never seen again. A new life begins...

Pretty cool stuff actually; Tony Carey does a nice job of not getting to deep in the minutia of a tough subject. I just listened to this again for the first time since I can’t remember when and it still sounds fresh. I remember associating it with The Wall at the time I got it, but I think that’s only because of the interludes, the story, complexity within the music, and the fact that it’s a double album.

Really cool stuff!

Availability: Can be had for around 10 bucks.

MSoTW: Nobody took a guess, I'm thinking Rjhog may know who it is so it's up to him to let everyone in on the secret. This week's track is pretty simple, but might be a bit hard.

Jeez, where are you finding this stuff? Yeah, I know. A record store. But still...

It's amazing.  A lot of the stuff I buy from this place is something I wouldn't have heard of if not for you guys.  He has a lot of good stuff, many albums 4 bucks and up, but I always go straight to the dollar albums.  He brings in some different stuff every week.  I go down there every 2-3 weeks on Saturday and I always find some stuff I don't already have.  I can walk out of there almost every time with at least 10 albums.  And they are generally in fair to good shape.  And if I ever have time, it's quite easy to convert 'em to mp3 for the computer.

I went back and listened again today (just disc one so far) and I have to say this is quite enjoyable.  It won't rock anybody's socks off, but like I said originally, it's very atmospheric and even reminds me of Pink Floyd.

Jon, do you have any of the trilogy that was released in the 2000's?

I have "1931: Go Out Dancing Pt. 1", the others are hard to come by, at least the last time I checked.
