Classic Rock Bottom

NEW (and CLASSIC) VIDEOCORNER#27 - (HEART, JOE BONAMASSA, GAVEYARD & THE SEX PISTOLS) )

Heart have released a video for Fanatic, the title track from their 14th studio album.

Joe Bonamassa could be said to fit the description “Dislocated Boy.”

That’s the title of his new video, below. But it could also refer to the current confusion over the future of his band Black Country Communion, with frontman Gleen Hughes having discussed his frustration over Bonamassa being too busy to commit – and the supergroup announcing then cancelling a one-off show in England.

The official video for the song “Goliath” from Swedish blues rockers GRAVEYARD has been released:

HEART ...  2 Danishes trying to resurrect their tastiness

Its not that I don't like this, it mostly that its just OK.  The production is different and looser than I typically like, maybe they are trying to update their sound too much?  Maybe its just me, but I'm waiting to hear the rest of the album before I pass any more judgment, but this was just OK for me...

JOE BONAMASSA ... 2 Black Country danishes asking Joe to call Glenn

Is that Brad Whitmore playing with the band?  He likes playing with classic rockers that's for sure.  If this came off the CD RJ posted in NMC some time ago, this may sound familiar ...  I love the geetar work there's no denying that, the tune isn't as interesting though.

GRAVEYARD ... 2 Danish, one young and one really old

Is that rhythm guitar player Kid Rocks dad?  At the end of the day the video is poorly produced and not very interesting mostly because the lead singer guy doesn't fit the backing band, no idea what this had to do with Goliath, and the "special effects" didn't really work.  haha..  But the I did kinda like the sound they were going for, maybe they have a future?

SEX PISTOLS ... Mercifully Not available in the USA

Heart--4

Nice to hear them rawking out again, and I wanna marry Nancy. The band looked really old except for the Wilsons for some reason, but I'm digging this song and debating whether I want this album. Nice that Bjork is playing keyboards!

Joe Bonamassa--4

I just listened to a fantastic blues album chock full of geetar that I'll probably toss up sometime soon, so I'm kinda in a bluesy feeling. I'm liking this, if Joe decides to do this solo thing full time, he might have something. What? Oh. Well, I still like it. Shame he didn't know the words though, hopefully this doesn't cause an issue when he's playing this live.

Graveyard--3

Mini Unabombers? I think there's now an overload of throwback metal. It's not bad, but hear this with The Sword, Priestess, Wolf etc., etc. I dug the song, but all this throwback stuff is starting to sound the same.

Sex Pistols--n/a

Can't see it here because we don't have a Monarchy.

Please explain to a foreigner, what throwback metal is. I think, I know what you mean, but I need you to confirm.

Sounds like it could have come from the 70's or 80's.

Heart (4 SEC East Championships)

This is better than anything I can remember from Red Velvet Car.  This comes out Tuesday, so I'll pick it up this week.  The song is missing one ingredient that would bump it up to 5 SEC.E.C.'s.  You know that part in the middle where you keep waiting for a guitar solo?  It needs a guitar solo.  And if I could play, it would be dirty and very sloppy.  Sort of like something Neil Young would do.

Joe Bonamassa (4 SEC.E.C.'s)

I like this song.  It's got a lot of soul.  I hear a slight bit of The Battle Of Evermore in the chorus.  You can also hear it right before the guitar solo.  You have to listen very closley to hear it.  This is the first time I've noticed it.  It's probably the 3rd best song on the album, behind the title track and the song with Jimmy Barnes.  The video is okay.  It's your now standard in the studio video.

Graveyard (5 SEC.E.C.'s)

While I agree there is an overload of the throwback sound, this is exceptional.  I almost bought this band's previous album, but I don't remember it being released here.  I'll have to check again.  Listen to the guitar work.  That's what I'm talkin' 'bout.  Scott says Kid Rock's dad, but I say it's Lt. Dan (Gary Sinise) with a blond wig.

Sex Pistols (Not available, which doesn't hurt my feelings at all)
