Classic Rock Bottom

Week # 10 by RJhog

This week I have two new releases from 2010 and one fairly new release from 2009.  I like all of these albums.  The first one is mostly a covers album which came out better than I expected.  The second album is a combination of hard rock and acoustic rock.  And the last is a metal album.  So lets get down to business.

Vince Neil - Tattoos & Tequila (June 2010)

1. Tattoos & Tequila

2. He's A Whore

3. AC/DC

4. Another Bad Day

5. Long Cool Woman

I'm not much of a Vince Neil fan, but this covers album is better that I expected it to be.  It has two original tunes (Tattoos & Tequila and Another Bad Day) and the rest are covers.  The title track has a great chorus and track 4 is very good as well.  My favorite cover on the album is Cheap Trick's He's A Whore.  Vince sounds really good on this song.  The overall song selection isn't bad at all.

Cover Art:

Not bad.  The tattooed chick is hot.  I'd grade it a B.

Recommendation:

Probably best suited for Vince Neil or Motley Crue fans, otherwise you can live without it.

Shaman's Harvest - Shine (July 2009)

6. Dragonfly

7. Turn It Up

8. Last Goodbye

9. Strike The Slate

10. Say The Same

This is the only album I have of this band, and the album itself only contains 8 songs.  But I really like it.  Niels featured the video for Dragonfly last week on VOTW.  That is a killer song as well as the acoustic ballad Say The Same.  The vocalist has a great voice and I think this band has tremendous potential.

Cover Art:

B+

Recommendation:

For sure.

Fozzy - Chasing The Grail (January 2010)

11. Under Blackened Skies

12. Grail

13. Let The Madness Begin

14. New Day's Dawn

15. God Pounds His Nails

This is definitely in the running for my favorite album of 2010.  Fozzy is the Chris Jericho fronted metal band.  They aren't full tilt metal, but they are pretty heavy.  Jericho's voice at times shows he can still use some vocal experience, but at other times it sounds quite good (he also makes me think of Ozzy Osbourne at times, and that makes me wonder if that's where the name Fozzy comes from).  The last two tracks will probably make my Top 15 songs of 2010 list at the end of the year.  But it's not just a couple of tracks, this album is outstanding rock music.

Cover Art:

The band's logo needs work.  I do like the image surrounded by fire.  I'll say B.

Recommendation:

Must buy.  This album gets my highest recommendation.

For a "joke" band (that's how they started), Fozzy isn't bad at all. Gotta give kudos to Stuck Mojo, they backup Jericho quite nicely.
