Foo Fighters - Wasting Light

1. Bridge Burning

2. Dear Rosemary

3. Arlandria

4. These Days

5. Miss The Misery

Rope (VOTW # 39)

White Limo (VOTW # 35)

Wasting Light, the group’s seventh studio album – and first since 2007 – was recorded with rock uberproducer Butch vig (he manned the boards for Sonic Youth, the Smashing Pumpkins, and yes, Nirvana) in Grohl’s basement using only analog equipment. As if that weren’t enough, Nirvana bassist Krist Novoselic, Husker Du’s Bob Mould, and the Grems’ Pat Smear, who played with the Foos from 1994 to ’97, all appear, forming a kind of Voltron of ‘90s alt-ness.  Wasting Light is a muscular rock & roll throwdown, featuring the Foos delivering exactly the kind of catchy, pummeling anthems they’re known for, with total disregard for the whims of the masses.

Brian Robertson - Diamonds & Dirt

1. Diamonds & Dirt

2. It's Only Money

3. Texas Wind

4. Do It Till We Drop

5. 10 Miles To Go On A 9 Mile Road

In June 1974, Thin Lizzy were auditioning for a new guitarist and a try-out for Robertson was arranged. Aged 18, Robertson was taken on along with Scott Gorham on the other lead guitar. The two lead guitarists provided a critical part of Thin Lizzy's signature sound, referred to by critics as their 'twin guitar attack'. During his time in the band, over the course of 5 albums Robertson contributed a substantial share of songwriting, sometimes collaborating with frontman bassist/vocalist Phil Lynott who was the primary songwriter for the band. This Cd contains new material from Brian Robertson.

I am really surprised you picked up the Brian Robertson album. Really, really, really, really surprised. Almost makes me respect you.

I have a holiday at the moment, and I usually listen to music from NMC etc. at work, so I don't really know, when I'm going to listen to the Brian Robertson-album, but I HAVE heard the Foo Fighters album a couple of times now, so....

FOO FIGHTERS - THUMBS EVEN

Best tracks on this album is "Bridge Burning", "Rope", "White Lomo", "These Days" and "Walk".

I don't know; I'm a bit dissapointed. It MIGHT be the best thing, they've done since "The Coulor and ...", but I had expected something else. That they had "grown up" a bit, instead of being appealing to teenagers. They HAVE grown up a bit, but not enough. I think they are at their best, when they ROCK like on "White Limo". I don't like it, when it's too much MTV-pop, and 4-5 tracks are like that. But the guitars sounds great, especially on the songs, I've mentioned.

Hmmmmmmm......I'll have to take my Foo Fighter's "review" back. I'll change it to THUMBS UP!!!

I've heard the album a few times more now, and I really like it. From now on, I will wait until I have heard the albums 3-5 times, before I'll make "a statement". By the way: "Forevermore" is pretty good too!!

Brian Robertson ... Thumbs almost all the way up

Interesting!  The first thing I notice is the mastering volume is lower than most new releases.  Mistake at production?  That aside, I really like the feel of it from the get-go.  Diamonds & Dirt is a nice mid-tempo, subtle vocal, AOR friendly track.  I like the guitar work on it as well.  Not sure about 'It's Only Money' though, it seemed to fade into the background toward the last 1/3 or it.  But I got roped back in on Texas Wind.  Love the smokin guitar work!  Do It Til We Drop is nice but not great until the guitar breaks, can this guy can write a solo or what?  Interesting last track.  Real nice musically, vocally, not too sure, but I liked it!

If the mastering was better quality, I'd be fully in purchase mode...

Foo Fighters ... Thumbs Up and in Purchase mode

I love these guys, theyre stage presence is rivaled only by the likes of The Who and Led Zeppelin.  A full on rock assault with loads of funs thrown in.  I was a bit skeptical because 'One by One' and 'In Your Honor' could be the same record, so much so that I skipped the Echoes release.  This one does show an evolution to their music while they remain true to their spirit and sound.  Grohl is a Master!

Foo Fighters--Thumbs Down

The last song posted kind of had potential. The rest? Bleck.

Brian Robertson--Thumbs Up

Liked this a lot, will most definitely purchase, no matter what it sounds like. For some reason, I kept of thinking of Mick Ronson's last solo album while listening to this, not because they're the same, but they're really good solo albums, much better that I thought they would be.

BRIAN ROBERTSON - THUMBS ALMOST DOWN

The first song reminds me of Don Henley. But these songs kind of bore me. When you think about, that this man plays on "Emerald" together with Scott Gorham, you've got to be dissapointed with this. It's not bad, just very boring!! The "Don Henley-track" is probably the best.

Foo Fighters (Thumbs Up)

I'm lovin' this one.  It's getting a lot of play in the old truck.  I'm even liking White Limo more and more.  This has assumed the lead in album of the year for me, but it's still very early.  My favorite two tracks are Dear Rosemary and Arlandria, but I like the album from start to finish.

Brian Robertson (Thumbs Even)

My favorite track here is Texas Wind, but I think 10 Miles To Go On A 9 Mile Road is really cool as well.  It's totally different but it just stays in my head.
