Classic Rock Bottom

#99...  Cool Number!  Heres some facts about this number before we get started...

  • Nina has 99 luftballoons
  • Jay-Z has 99 problems
  • 99 keeps breaking Toto's heart.
    • Agent 99 on the TV show Get Smart, played by Barbara Feldon for whom who Toto wrote a song, called "99," about the agent on Get Smart.
  • 99 is a common price ending in psychological pricing.  Gets me every time!
  • In the United Kingdom and Ireland, a '99' is an ice cream cone with a Cadbury's chocolate flake pressed into the ice cream such that roughly half the flake is visible.
  • Ninety-nine is a simple card game with a running total, players dropping out if they would be forced to bring the total above ninety-nine. See Ninety-nine (addition card game).
  • In the U.S. Navy, specifically naval aviation operations aboard aircraft carriers, the radio call "99 Aircraft" or simply "99" on certain aircraft radio frequencies means that all aircraft from the same ship, wing, squadron or formation should be alert to the subsequent radio transmission.
  • NMC #99 on CRB is likely to be the best New Music Corner you've heard or will hear in a long time

Hey, that means I'm gonna post #100. What have I won?

Don Felder (Thumbs 3/4 Up)

This isn't bad at all.  I was originally going to get this but it became a victim of my "I have to quit spending so much money on CD's"  yearly mentality.  The first song is decent.  The second track is a rocker, but it doesn't grab me.  I like the third track a lot.  Man, I could really hear the Eagles doing this song.  Like the geetar on the 4th track.  The final song isn't bad, but it does sound a bit contrived.

Overall, this isn't bad at all.  The biggest hold back for me would be his voice.  Don't get me wrong, it's not bad, it's just not remarkable.  Out of all the Eagles, his voice is the least interesting to me.

Anberlin (Thumbs Up)

Wow, this kind of busts out of the box.  I know Scott likes this band.  I'm pretty sure you have posted every new album they have had since we started here.  This first track is heavier than I remember them sounding.  I like it.  Track 2 sounds much more like what I was expecting.  And I like it too.  I really like the chorus.  The third track doesn't suit me as well.  It's sounds too much like Snow Patrol.  A nice, heavy riff opens up track 4.  They obviously have a guitar player, why no solos?  The bass is pretty killer on this song as well.  Wait, there is a guitar solo on this one.  Not bad either.  I'm not crazy about electronic type music, but the last song isn't bad at all.  The start is very atmospheric.  This would be a great song for a movie.  The vocals and melody are outstanding.  I'm giving this one 4/5 stars for the tracks posted.  This is going in my "kick it around a bit and then decide whether or not to buy it" file.

Yup. I do love this band, Ive mentioned them from time to time and even named lead singer Steven Christian as my favorite vocalist from the 2000's in what ever thread that was...  This album is solid top to bottom and your right again, heavier than their last few releases.  But they didn't just make a heavier record for the sake of being heavier, they made a great Anberlin album that happens to be heavier.  Their songwriting ability and musicality are top notch IMO.  You will likely see TYPE THREE as top 3 tune from me and this album will also be high on my list.  I suspect, I may stand alone on that, but it appears your beginning to hear what I heard a while ago...

The song that introduced me to them was Unwinding Cable Car, a killer song.  Do you know that one?  Based on what I've heard from your post, I'd have no problem with Christian being in the running for vocalist of the year.  Of course, I'd wanna hear the whole album before hand.  Dang it, I guess I'm gonna have to pick it up.

Yup, know that tune, its off a 2007 release called CITIES.  Would've fit nicely in one of our Acoustic playlists actually!  Really nice tune...

I think I'll add a new 10 song playlist in the Acoustic group and kick it off with that song.  Great idea.  That groups been dead for a while.

I hear a ton of Eagles in the music the more I listen.  Its clear what was missing from The Eagles Long Road out of Eden release.  He probably brought more to the Eagles than we thought.  But your right, his voice isn't the best but his songwriting is way good!  This album may crack my 2012 top ten.

This is what the wait was for? I thought it was another "new" Tommy Bolin album.

I'm holding that one up for a special occasion...

Oh. Ok.

"Agent 99 on the TV show Get Smart, played by Barbara Feldon for whom who Toto wrote a song, called "99," about the agent on Get Smart."

I'm confused. what was Toto's song about?

That sentence hurts my head the more I read it!
