Classic Rock Bottom

I only got one new album this time. It was my meaning, that I also would had posted David Bowie's new album, but Jon posted that one a copuple of weeks back. It is my intention, only to buy good albums this year. I am so tired of buying albums, that I only listen to one or two times. This one is good imo. It's not prog at all, though. Oh, and the album-cover is imo the best album-cover so far in 2013.

CLUTCH - EARTH ROCKER

1. Earth Rocker

2. Gone Cold

3. Book, Saddle & Go

4. Oh, Isabella

5. The Wolf Man Kindly Requests....

1. Earth Rocker -  Nice riffs on this one.  I dig the drumming as well.  But I don't care one bit for the vocals.

2. Gone Cold - This one is much better vocally.  And it really has a different sound.  I like this.

3. Book, Saddle & Go -  Agian, this song has some good riffage.  I like the lead guitars, but it's really only played underneath the vocals.  This one's a draw.

4. Oh, Isabella - The riffing is there again.  I like the bass too.  This really reminds me of The Sword, vocally and musically.  And the chorus is really good on this song.  Man, this sounds a lot like The Sword.  Best song so far.

5. The Wolf Man Kindly Requests... - Great title.  This also sounds a bit like The Sword.  It's good, though not as good as the previous track.  I also like the change in tempo.

So overall, I'd say 3.5 out of 5, which is definitely better than I expected.  I probably won't get this, but I'm glad you posted it.  You never know...

Almost lost track of this one!  Thanks for featuring it so I wouldn't.  Its been a rough week!

I love this first track musically.  Its a ton of fun, the drums sound crisp and sharp and I love that feel and sound.  Makes such a difference.  Vocally, and this may surprise you, it fits the tune so it didn't bother me as it surely has in other listening experiences.  Its all about context!

Gone Cold is a really really cool!  Haunting in a way, the acoustic backdrop is real slick!  The 3rd and 4th tracks were more in the "pretty good" category instead of really cool!  But I liked them.

This last track is very 60's!  I like it!  In fact, I can dig it!

I also want to give a nod to the cover art.  I come from a town that borders a real life Native American reservation.  They are the Bannock Shoshone tribe and we grew up together, playing and going to school!  So I have a great appreciation for what is depicted and the name of the album.  Are there members of this band that are Native American?

3 out of 5 really cool, and 2 pretty darn goods!  Nice Post Niels!

They don't look like indians to me (or can't you say "Indians" anymore? Cowboys and "Native americans"?), but I'm not at all sure.

The singer (far right) looks and sound cool imo.

I also thinks it's cool, that you have grown up in a town with these native americans, Scott.

I haven't even been growing up with native danish people. We all got some german, swedish or french blood in our veins. I know, I have all 3 kinds

hahaha..  Here on the East coast people know "Indians" as those who are from India.  Back home, Indians are Indians!  So it depends on where you are...

Funny thing is, I am German and Scandinavian by decent as well.  But I'm a nice guy, so no French...  hahahaha

I only got one drop of french blood.

I think I'm 1/8 swede and my grandfather was actually a german soldier.....in the FIRST worldwar. Not that he wanted to be, so he "accidently" got wounded, and ended up in a russian "prisoner of war"-camp and was sent home to his/our family.

I have to say, that I didn't mean, that native americans doesn't look cool, regarding the picture. On the contrary. The band would probably had looked more cool, if they WERE "indians"

I bought this on a "whim" a few weeks ago. The why of the whim? Well, Atlanta's own Ledfoot Messiah will play an occasional cover...and they do one by Clutch (not from this album, though). So, I thought what the heck, I'll give it a try. If those guys like Clutch, I probably will too.

This new release for me, is decent. Not great, but ok. It will never see more than "medium rotation", I think, but it will get played as years go by.

I really like "Gone Cold" for it's diversity, and the "feeling" I get when hearing it. Almost like a "spacey western" track, it that makes any sense. The vocal work is something that has grown on me the more I listen, as I found it somewhat weak originally. I am surprised that there is really not that much lead guitar on the disc. Overall, on a scale of 1 to ten, I'd give this a 6 or 6.5.

Hey...easy on the french there. And just for the record, almost all our ancestors are of german descent. Including my french ass. lol

Damn this is a good album. Really diggin it. But then I love Clutch. I had never really heard any of their stuff till I saw them open for Motorhead a couple years ago and they blew my socks off (and then Motorhead blew my head off). This is one of their best releases out of their catalogue. That is some cool artwork too. reminds me of the 70's stuff.

Thumbs up hell yeah for this post.

Thumbs 3/4 Up.

The vocals in the first song didn't appeal to me much until around 1:23 into the song when he said the most glorious word ever with the correct pronunciation. He must have gotten the idea from reading stuff here.

Total deaprture with the second song, doomy stuff.

The rest kicked it up many notches and I liked it all. Nice riffage throughout.

Oh, I'm German if anyone cares. We're talking about that, right?

Nice post, Niels. Sorry I stole David Bowie!
