Classic Rock Bottom

The more things change, the more they stay the same.

New Years is over and its time to get back into the groove.  I got back into the groove of a new work week and indulged myself in an old lunch time ritual I used to do with a bunch of work buddies.  Thats visit the Chinese food place and then spend the rest of the lunch hour at the used CD store next to it.  I had high hopes that some sucker or suckers, turned in a bunch of new music they got on Christmas for cash.  But it just wasnt to be today.  However, if I wanted the entire Aerosmith catalog it was there, tons of Clapton, ACDC, and the usual crapola like Backstreet Boys and other boy bands.  Ugh... I was so excited and then so let down to leave empty handed.

Its not that I was searching for inspiration for this list, its just another way of Treasure Hunting.  Soon enough I'll get the itch and go back, and so on and so forth.  All for that elusive treasure that turns up every blue moon.

Heres 10 more hidden treasures that may make you remember or better yet, inspire a treasure hunting trip of your own!

Enjoy...

TITLE:  Girl Goodbye

ALBUM: Toto

BAND: Toto

YEAR: 1978

From their killer debut album. Love the vocals and the rhythm guitar in the chorus.

TITLE: Addicted

ALBUM: Last Safe Place

BAND: Le Roux

YEAR: 1980

AKA Louisiana's Le Roux.  Opening track of side 1 to an album thats one hidden treasure after another.

TITLE: If You Knew Me Better

ALBUM: A Different Kind of Crazy

BAND: Head East

YEAR: 1979

Killer track, written so perfectly.  So simple and elegant.  What a great band!

TITLE: Secret Separation

ALBUM: Walkabout

BAND: The Fixx

YEAR:1986

(Pulled from Greatest Hits)

Such a simple guitar but so effective.  Love the chorus!  You rescued Me...  Now Free Me!!!

TITLE: On The Run

ALBUM: Lake

BAND: Lake

YEAR: 1976

Catchy, poppy, full of hooks, great vocals, I could keep going...

TITLE: Nicole

ALBUM: American Exce$$

BAND: Point Blank

YEAR: 1981

Cool band that brought their southern roots rock and roll momentum too late to the party.  1981 was a good year, but they didn't keep up with the times and fell away..

TITLE: Fast Buck Freddie

ALBUM: Red Octopus

BAND: Jefferson Starship

YEAR: 1975

For 1975 this is stunning production and even better song writing.  Original Starship cant be beat!

TITLE: Here Is Gone

ALBUM: Gutterflower

BAND: The Goo Goo Dolls

YEAR: 2002

Guitly Pleasure?  Maybe.  They either knock it out of the park or whiff all together.  This is one of my favorites.

TITLE: Looking For Love

ALBUM: The Babys

BAND: The Babys

YEAR:  1976

From their debut.  The use of the cowbell would make another really cool appearance in a future track written by Jonathan Cain!  More cowbell!!!

TITLE: It's Alright

ALBUM: Paul Stanley

BAND: Paul Stanley

YEAR: 1977

Everynow and then I will pull this and the Ace Frehley solo, and then innevitably I have a hard time putting them away.  Thats what happened when I was playing around with the album covers idea.

OK, a little, alright, alot on the mid-tempo side this week, but hey, in my humble opinion, not a bad one in the bunch!

Caio!

"It's Alright/If you want me/It's alright/If  you need me/Girl if you want me to stay for the night, It's alright"!  I dearly love this song and the CD it comes from.  Can you imagine how good the cd would have been if a Kiss album was released in 1978 instead of 4 solo albums?  I can.  But I'm glad it wasn't, 'cause we got Paul and Ace's solo albums, which are both fantastic.

This was a terrific playlist Scott.  And I was only familiar with the last song, so 90 per cent of it is new to me.  I think all of the songs were good, but my favorite would be that track by Lake.  That song is awesome.  And I'd say the Toto song is a real close second.

Lake was a really cool album to have back in the day.  Everyone was listening to it, I really thought they were heading for great things.  Then poof!!!  Gone!

Would be an interesting list if someone (hint hint) was to take the 4 KISS Solo CD's and put together the album that should have been!

My personal favorite on this list is the Head East track, I just love that track.

I actually liked every song here (yes, even the ones from Paul Stanley and The Poo Poo Dolls) but really liked Lake. Almost picked up a couple albums from them last year but didn't. I used to hate The Fixx until about 10 years ago, now I kinda dig them (the hate from some guy playing an album from them over and over and over again while we were on a roadtrip from California to Texas).

You also had some songs  had nevr heard before (from Le Roux and Point Blank) that mkes me almost want to pick up an album or two from each. If I had money (damned Christmas!)

A fine, FINE playlist Sir Scott!!!

Oh, and I just noticed something...Scott has posted a song from Kiss and Paul Stanley in 2/3 of his last SHT Lists and they haven't annoyed me. Am I turning into a Kiss fan?????????????

Im fixing the KISS issue today!  Thanks for the great feedback!

Wait a second...WHAT KISS ISSUE?????

hahahaha, they will not have song in SHT #28.  I didn't have them in the player this week.  Maybe next?

Whew..ok, I'm all good now.

Been doing some discovery on iTunes today and the Lake album is one I came across.  I really like the soundbites and it is now in my wish list.

Do you have any familiarity with The Michael Stanley band (this is to Scott or Jon or anybody that might have some input)?

You may want to hold out for the week after nexts SHT list. It's an album I can't live without

Are we talkin' 'bout Lake?

Yes... I have a couple hidden treasure albums that I want to show this week and next. This weeks is done, just gotta post it and then Lake is on deck

Cool.  I also noticed you had Point Blank on this play list.  I have had them put in my head for some reason lately.  I keep seeing a cd by them in the used store but haven't picked it up because it's 9 bucks.  However, I was looking through my dollar albums I have purchased in the last year or so and American Excess is one of them.  So I just finished converting it top mp3 tonight.  Will listen some time this week.

And I see from my original comment above that I liked that Lake song then too.
