SMASH OR TRASH (DREAM THEATER - ON THE BACKS OF ANGELS)

Here is the new Portnoyless Dream Theater track.  What do you think?

Dream Theater - On The Backs Of Angels

Sorry that it's a link, but I'm not at home and can't fix up a player at the moment.

SMASH-Like the heavy geetar, seemed like it was missing a bit from the last couple albums. Mangini is not a bad drummer at all, it's a shame that "fans" are going to immediately dislike this because Portnoy is gone (for now). Outside of this song, like the album cover too, look very closely.....
Interesting, compare this cover with Supertramps "Famous Last Words", looks like the scissors werent quite sharp enough
SMASH - Finally feels like they are gettting back to being a great progressive rock and roll band and not the grungy/crunchy version heard on Train of Thought and Six Degrees...  Slowly but surely we are getting back to the best sound Dream Theater can produce! Portnoyless and all...
Hey, I like "Train Of Thought", to me that's their last stellar album. But that's ok, everyone has an opinion, sad that everyone's but mine is wrong. Have I mentioned that before?
no no, I like it too, I just felt it was little left of their center.  my take only....  Im very much am a IMAGES AND WORDS/AWAKE/FALLING INTO INFINITY/SCENES fan so you can see how that threw me for a loop
My top faves and "Awake" and "Train Of Thought", they seem to bit a bit more darker than their usual output.

Hey what happened to Electric Mary?  I just finished listening and my comment would'nt post...  Heres what I wrote in case your interested...

ELECTRIC MARY...

SMASH - Like the riffage as well, and that bass line puts this track over the top. Nice discovery! Want to hear more...

Sorry, I was experimenting and didn't realize you were listening.  Stay tuned this afternoon.
Electric Mary? I'm missing something here.....

To me, this is neither smash nor trash. Pretty decent listen, just not good enough for me to call it a smash.

On the subject of "Train Of Thought", the track "As I Am" from this release has some of the best guitar riffage you could ever want to hear, in my opinion.

This band has mad talent musicianship wise, but I find it difficult at times to listen to for extended periods of time. Not sure why, because again, the talent level is incredible.

(Kind of)SMASH - I've only bought one DT-album, and it was the first one in '89( I think ), but I'll probably buy the new one, even though I definetly like Prog rock better than Prog Metal. It reminds me a bit of Yngwie Malmsteen. A very cool cover, indeed.
