PRWeb reports:
Legendary rock band THE CULT prepares to release new music on November 16th via innovative music capsules, heralding a new era of music delivery that will impact the way we hear music for years to come.

Capsule 2: New Blood Deep Cuts features new songs 'Embers' and 'Until The Light Takes Us', live recordings of some of the band's huge hits and an intimate look into The Cult's rehearsal space, with a never before seen warm-up performance of 'Black Angel'.

Rather than revisit the traditional method of releasing a long form CD, the band is pioneering a new way of providing material. Capsules span multiple media formats including vinyl, digital, USB, CD and DVD formats, and can be purchased at this location.

Frontman Ian Astbury explains, "We are stepping away from the conventional system. By including new music, live music and film, we are giving our fans the opportunity to own other creative visions. The Capsule is a way of delivering music in bites, quicker and fresher than in the context of an album format."

Capsule 2: New Blood Deep Cuts' lead track, 'Embers', will be available exclusively on iTunes beginning November 1st for 2 weeks, while iTunes' exciting new music-oriented social network site called Ping boasts an exclusive On Demand preview streaming of 'Embers', the 'Black Angel' rehearsal film and new band photos.

On the heels of their wildly successful Love Live Tour celebrating their 1985 groundbreaking album, The Cult announces a new run of US dates on their L'America Tour kicking off October 28th in Chicago. UK dates begin January 18th, 2011 in Leeds. Fans are afforded the unique opportunity of leaving the venue each night after a Cult concert with a full recording of the show on a USB flash drive - to relive each incendiary moment.

The Cult is Ian Astbury (vocals), Billy Duffy (guitar), Chris Wyse (bass), John Tempesta (drums) and Mike Dimkich (rhythm guitar), who worked with producer Chris Goss (QUEENS OF THE STONE AGE, UNKLE) to bring the new capsule recordings to life.

"Our latest recordings are a mixture of violent guitars, emotive vocal performances with high melody and driving beats," offers Astbury. "Textured metaphysical rock music for the contemporary music head."

This is BS. Two new songs. My opinion is, if you want to release 2 new songs, go ahead. But don't come up with some crazy reason like you are doing me a favor by not giving me a full length album. Call it what it is. These two new songs are all we could come up with, so here are some greatest hits with 2 new songs. So bogus.

The songs not even that good.
Agree RJ.. BS! Theres no value here whatsoever!

I am interested in the way bands are toying with the release packaging and alternatives options though. Although I prefer the CD and booklet, I must begin to think differently about packaging options because CD's are disappearing from store shelves at an alarming rate...

The downloadable formats are improving with PDF booklets and video extras, and some with special access to internet extras as well. Still, no one has has bettered the physical CD and booklet concept. Content improvements, while better than the CD, still cant overcome the buyers experience and physical aspect of the CD format. With that I get to do whatever I want with it, I choose the format I rip at, the player I use, and its a permanent member of my music collection that doesn't get lost when I upgrade my computer or when the hard drive crashes.
I agree 100 per cent Scott. They can certainly find better incentives to get folks to buy the CD. Live music isn't necessarily one of 'em. I want new studio music. Just don't re-release the CD 2 months later with 2 bonus tracks. That blows. Put your bonus tracks on the original release and give me a choice, 9.99 for the standard edition, 11.49 for the deluxe edition. I know you already have those bonus tracks available, so stop screwing me over...

As a side note to that, Shinedown is doing this again with The Sound Of Madness, but at least this time there are quite a few bonus tracks. I'll actually repurchase this one because I really like the album and want the bonus tracks.
Deluxe editions are a sore subject with me as well....
No commment other to say...oh well. Their last album wasn't that good anyway so I don't care. I like The Cult, but they're making me stay away with the newfangled ways to get an album. And, like Rjhog says, it's not worth it for a couple songs. I dunno, maybe they're going to relase a couple songs every month and then come out with a CD.

Unless forced, I will not shy away from CD's. I need 'em. Thank goodness there's online retailers where you can buy 'em.

I guess I did have a comment.

And maybe we're getting old and acting like fogies not wanting to change our ways?
