Classic Rock Bottom

Well, we have to have some "action" here on CRB while we're wainting for some music, and in this week's (first?!) VOTW I'm going to show you 6(!) video's : 5 new ones and one classic.

1. The newest video from Slash's feat. Myles Kennedy "Back from Cali" of course from 2010. I'm sure you know the song, so injoy the video:

Then we go a little nordic:

2. Negative with the song/video "End of the Line" from 2010. Negative is a finnish Glam Rock band founded at the end of 1997. Members of Negative cite musical influence such as Guns N'Roses, Queen and Hanoi Rocks. The band itself labels the music as ”emotional rock’n roll”.

3. Vains of Jenna with the song/Video "Mind Pollution" from 2010. Vains of Jenna was formed by four young people from Sweden. Their common influences include Mötley Crüe, Guns'N Roses, The Rolling Stones, Aerosmith, Nirvana and Hanoi Rocks.

4. And we're back in the US. HellYeah with the song/video "Hell of a Time" again from 2010. Hellyeah is an American heavy metal supergroup, consisting of Mudwayne vocalist Chad Gray and guitarist Greg Tribbet, Nothingface guitarist Tom Maxwell, Damageplan bassist Bob Zilla, and former Pantera, Rebel Meets Rebel and Damageplan drummer Vinnie Paul.

5. The last of the new video's you either love or hate. I think they're crazy and I like the song a lot: Foxy Shazam with the song/video "Unstoppable" again from 2010.Foxy Shazam is an American rock band from Cincinnati, Ohio that formed in 2004. On February 7, 2010, their single Unstoppable was featured in Super Bowl XLIV, so you might know it, I did'nt.

6. ...and last but not least: The classic: Vixen with "Crying" from 1988. I saw Vixen open for Scorpions in jan. ´89, and they we're okay. The guitarist Jan Kuehnemund is hot! Feel free to give the video som points for "Cheesyness".

This looks superb Niels...I'll watch later, but I love the song "Back From Cali" so I know I'll post at least one star. I have the HellYeah album that I'll eventually get into the NMC. And I'm looking forward to the Veins Of Jenna video.
Slash... 1.5 stars
1 star for the video, I love a good concert/performance video, and .5 stars for the song, its good but not great.

Negative... 1 stars
For a band that labels themselves as 'emotional rock and roll', I found the song and the video to be pretty lifeless. half star each

Vains of Jenna... 1 stars
Just a guess, but Im betting the singer is also influenced by The Cult and the bass guitarist by Adam Ant.

HellYeah... unrated
Video just shows as a black box, no player controls...

Foxy Shazam... -3 stars
Not sure wether to deduct points for the name or add a point for reminding me of a really bad Saturday morning show when I was young. OK decided to deduct 1. And the song, yuck! minus 1. and another deduction for the mimes...

Vixen...1 stars with a cheese factor of 4
3 hot blondes in leather and a drummer that looks like she could kick my arse! +2!!! Songwriting by Richard Marx, -1... The videos cheese factor is pretty low, it is well put together, so not may issues, with the exception of that stage, ugh!
Yeah, I told you so: Either you love or hate the Foxy Shazam-song/video.

Can't say, what's wrong with the HellYeah-video? It works fine here, but some video's, I cannot see here in Europe, so I think it might be that "problem". I'm going to add a "embed-code" of the video from another internet-site.Please let me know, if you can see it, because I can't!!??

By the way, here a my "votes":

Slash 1,5 stars

Cool song and an okay video

Negative 1,5 stars

Cool video and an okay song

Vains of Jenna 1,5 stars

Cool song and an okay video

HellYeah 1 star

Okay both on the song and video

Foxy Shazam 1,75 stars

Yes, it IS my favorite of the bunch. I like the song, 1 star and it's a funny video 0,75 star.

Vixen 1 star and cheese factor 3

It's a fine little song and they look kinda good, especially Jan!!
Rub it in Niels, RUB IT IN!
Okay, I'm a bit lost on the joke, Jon? What the h... do you want me to rub in, and where?
Your stuff works.
Slash ( 1.5 stars)

I really dig this song. I'm a big fan of Myles Kennedy and I'm very excited about the upcoming Alter Bridge album. I think Slash did a very good job overall on his latest solo effort, and this is my favorite song from the album. So 1 star for the song, but only 0.5 stars for the video. It's not bad, but I prefer a studio set up for performance videos that involve a song recorded in the studio. But at least there is no cruddy concept.

Negative (1 star)

I find nothing negative about this song. It's my type of song. Great melody and hook. And thankfully, we have a lead guitar player that looks for feeling, not full throttle shredding. I'll have to check this band out.
However, the video concept made no sense, and the performance, while not terrible, was somewhat bland. If Axl Rose is an influence on the lead singer, he doesn't show it. He should watch Axl's performance in the Sweet Child 'O Mine video.

Vains Of Jenna (1.5 stars)
Another band I've heard of but not delved into as of yet. I'm gonna give the song a full star because it has a great groove. The vocals are very decent. The only drawback is the part of the chorus where he sings the song title, everyting else I like. Speaking of GNR influence, this bands style is definitely influenced by them. As for the video, I'll give 0.5 stars for the decent performance and the black and white shot video, though it's nothing new.

HellYeah (1.5 stars)

I like this song as well. It has pretty good contrast between acoustic work and the heavier stuff, and I've always been a fan of that (see Black Diamond by Kiss). From what I've heard of this album, this is easily the best song on it. The video gets 0.5 stars for a decent performance and really hot girls. The hot girls would have given the video a full star, but they were not shown enough.

Foxy Shazam (0 stars)

Okay, I agree with Scott. That's a lame name for a band. I remember the Sat. morning show as well. The song is not good and the video makes me yawn. I guess you know which one of the two categories that Niels referred to in the original post that I belong to.

Vixen (0.5 stars/ cheese factor 2)

First off, I'm not much of a Vixen fan. It's not that I don't like women in rock, 'cause I do. But all girl groups have never really done it for me. I don't think the song is that good (it's not terrible). I think the drummer looks way, way too much like Vinnie Vincent. And although the guitar player is good looking, she seems to me to be a late 80's Nancy Wilson wannabe. So I'm giving a half star just because the video from that time doesn't seem all that cheesy to me. The cheese factor is 2 just because of the massive amount of hairspray deposited into the crumbling ozone layer just for this video shoot and the 3 chick choreographed dance move toward the end.

Niels, this is another job well done. Four really good songs that you have turned some folks on to with this feature. Keep up the good work.
Thank you, RJhog. Ha ha ha...you're right about "Vinnie Vincent" on drums!!

I have NO idea, what "Foxy Shazam" on TV were?! To me it's just a band-name, not good not bad.
Speaking of the Vixen-drummer: She will PROBABLY turn up again in VOTW in one of the classic video's. Can anyone guess in what band without using google, Yahoo etc.?
Shazam was a kids show that came on American TV on Sat. mornings when I was a kid. It's a little foggy, but I believe the character said "Shazammmmmm...." and turned into sort of a super hero. Which reminds me of Isis, another similar show, and I think the female character twirled while saying something like "almighty Isis" and she turned into a super hero. Again, my memory is a little foggy.

We also had a TV show called The Andy Griffith Show, in which Jim Neibors played a dim witted character named Gomer Pyle, and he always said "Shazam". Of course, that spun off his own show called Gomer Pyle USMC where he joined the marines.

Dude, you have no idea what you missed on Amercan TV.
