Classic Rock Bottom

No need for that much text here, let's just get stated with this week's VOTW. There will be 8 video's this time, and that's 5 new and 3 classics this time. Feel free to add point on the cheesefactorscale as usual, on the last of the classic video's, if you think, it deserves it. I know the band involved has got a few fans on this site, so maybe you don't think, it's got any cheesefactor at all??!! Lets go:

1. OZZY OSBOURNE - LET IT DIE

The newest single/video from Ozzy's latest album,"Scream" from last year.

2. APOCALYPTICA - NOT STRONG ENOUGH

The finish "Cello Metal"-band, with their new video. The song comes from their 2010-album, "7th Symphony". I've got a feeling, that maybe Jon will like this one?

3. VREID - THE SOUND OF THE RIVER

I've also got a feeling about this one, and that is, that Scott won't like the song, because of the "cookie monster vocals".Vreid is a Black Metal-band from Norway, again from my part of the woods, well allmost. This is from their coming album "V", that will be out later in 2011.

4. SERENITY - THE CHEVALIER

This is a melodic power metal band from Austria, and the song is from their coming 3rd album, called "Death & Legacy", released later in 2011.

5. PUSHKING - IT'LL BE OK

The last of this week's new video's, comes from Pushking, feat. ZZ Top's Billy Gibbons and Nuno Bettencourt from Extreme. I don't know much about this one, except that there will be released an compilation-album next week, called "The world as we know it". Does anybody knows anything about this one?

6. THIN LIZZY - WAITING FOR AN ALIBI

Well, it's 25 years since Phil Lynnot died, so let's remember him with this great video from his prime.

7. THE WHO - YOU BETTER YOU BET

I love this song, and I love this band. Maybe the only REALLY good song they released after Keith Moon's death.

8. JOURNEY - SEPARATE WAYS

You gotta admit, it's rather cheesy with the "air-playing" in the beginning of this video?! What's the cheesefactor?

The Thin Lizzy track is from "Black Rose: A Rock Legend" - some consider it the last true Thin Lizzy album made.  A true classic whatever your view is...
Well the Journey video is rather pedestrian and full of 80's cheese. But the fact remains I LOVE this song.

Ozzy Osbourne--(.5 point)

Rather pedestrian song until around the 2:50 mark, then it got cool for about 40 seconds and then went back to the regular stuff. I like Ozzy, but the last song I liked from him was "Perry Mason" from awhile ago. Still, Gus G is a wicked cool guitarist. And the video was kinda bleh. Does Ozzy ever blink?

Apocalyptica--(1 point)

Didn't like the song too much, sounds like any other song on the radio. Like the band, like the video so will give it a point for that. Not a Shinedown fan so could care less about the singer. Dug the women too!

Vreid--(1 point)

The song is pretty good, reminds me a lot of Opeth. However there's a right way for CM vocals and a wrong way and this one veers towards the wrong way by almost completely drowning out the instruments. When he sings "clean" it's not too bad. The song has a kind of Black Sabbath/prog rock vibe which I dug. Kind of liked the video, liked the abandoned building for some reason.

Serenity--(1.5 points)

Like the song, wasn't too overpowering like some symphonic metal. The two singers meshed well together as well. Could be me, but sounds like an attempt at a US hit? Maybe not because it's better than the crap Kanye West, Bruno Mars, The Black Eyes Peas, etc. etc., put out and the plebes in the US don't like stuff that's good. Orwhatever I'm  trying to say. Docking half a pont for the video, wanted some more tri-cornered hat stuff going on, like swords and muskets and cannons.

Pushking--(.5 point)

I dunno, the song dragged. I mean literally dragged. The vocals dragged, some of the guitar parts dragged. It dragged so much, I felt like putting on some women's clothes and heading to the mall. Will give .5 point for Nuno.

Thin Lizzy--(2 points)

Duh. It's Thin Lizzy.

The Who--(1 point)

I remember when this song came out and ho I hated it, but still bought the album because it was The Who. Still don't particularly like the song. There's much better tracks on the album than this ("The Quiet One", "How Can You Do It Alone") which is why I like the album. Just not this song. And I'm with folks on "Eminence Front"...sorry Niels, but that song kicks this ones butt. Giving 1 point because it's The Who.

Journey--(1.5 points, cheeziness 10+)

When this video came out, I was embarrassed to admit I liked Journey because the video is just so bad, even back then. The song is allright, but everytime I hear it this video pops in my head. Play to the camera, boys!  FUN STUFF: On the back cover of a Journey album, look really closely at someone who wears white pants. Someone pointed this out to me years ago and it just came to me, don't know why...
