Classic Rock Bottom

Here we go again: 5 new video's and 2 classics:

1. SERJ TANKIAN - GOODBYE - GATE 21

Singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, political activist and SYSTEM OF A DOWN frontman Serj Tankian releases his digital-only “Imperfect Remixes” EP today(!) on Serjical Strike/Reprise Records. The video for the lead single, “Goodbye – Gate 21 (Rock Remix)”, which features Tom Morello, is this week's first video.

2. SHAKRA - BACK ON TRACK

“Back On Track”, the new video from Swiss hard rockers SHAKRA. The song is the title cut of the band’s new album, which was released on February 25 via AFM Records. The CD marks the recording debut of new vocalist John Prakesh, who joined SHAKRA last year.

3. KOPEK - LOVE IS DEAD

Kopek are an irish rock band from Dublin. This is from their debut-album from last year "White Collar Lies".

4. THE BLACKOUT'S - HIGHER AND HIGHER

This is a "post-hardcore/hard rock" band from Wales. This is the title-song from their new album.

5. RIVAL SCHOOLS - WRING IT OUT

This is a post-hardcore band from New York, and this is from their comin album "Pedals".

6. LIVING COLOUR - CULT OF PERSONALITY

A true classic(?!) from 1988, I think. I bought the album, but did'nt really like it. Do you?

7. THE MISSION - TOWER OF STRENGHT

The original version of this song was released in 1987, and I loved it, played it over and over. This version is NOT as good, it's a 1994 remixed version, but I felt like posting this song, and therefore this video.

Watched the first two between meetings....

SERJ TANKIAN ... .5 points
Ive seen some of the System Of A Down videos and this guys freaky, not a fan of that band.  This performance wont help me like it either.  Its a passable tune in spite of his vocals though, and Morello's guitar is cool.  So lets go with .5 points all around

SHAKRA ... 1 point
Never heard of them before. Liked the riffage and the beat was nice.  Cool video in the studio, always like those.  So overall not bad, not pruchase material, but not a bad introduction to this band, will remember them if their name comes up again.  1 point

I'd listen to Cult of Personality over and over again before I'd ever listen to any of the other songs in these videos ever again.
You might want to hit the mute button and play that Kopek video...  just sayin'

Serj Tankian--.50 point

Like the song a bit, like the geetar a whole lot. However, I am docking .50 point from now on whenever there are googly eyes. Don't really get the video though....what was the purpose of the women?

Shakra--1.5 points

Nice rock throwback. The singer sounds like someone else, but who? It's escaping me right now. Simple video, seems like a promo type video but with train tracks.

Kopek--1.5 points

Damn, I LIKE THIS. However...my new rule #2. From now on docking .50 if anyone in the band has Counting Crows hair. I like the video too for some reason, just can't put my finger in why exactly. Umm...is that black nail polish on the drummer's toes?

The Blackouts--0 points

Parkour when parkour ain't needed is just stupid. This was stupid. 2 points for the wumman, the rest just sucked. Oh, and song sucked.

Rival Schools--1/2 point

So, let me get this straight: with the power of music, Megan could have been saved quicker? Father Merrick would not have had to die? Amazing. VIdo was kind of cool especially with the pea soup vomit, but the song kinda sucked.  The mother (?) in the video was familiar and I think I found her!

Living Colour--1.5 points

Great band, good song. I'm docking it 1/2 point because it was disgustingly overplayed. There's more to this band than this one song (and "Glamour Boys"), and I don't think they really got the credit they deserve. The followup to this is a fantastic album and didn't sell much at all.

The Mission--1 point

Good song, video was kind of bleh.

So this week my pick is Kopek (the bottom two don't count).

Another group of nice picks Niels!

Thank you. I'm especially glad, that you like the Mission-song. That's a big favorite of mine, well the original version!!

Here's the original version. I reminds me a bit of "Kashmir", but I think, I prefer this one:

Even though the original video you posted was good, I do like this version a bit better. I see the "Kashmir" influence that you mentioned (look who produced it). Forgot to mention, you need to call them The Mission U.K. for us Americans so we don't get "confused" with the other band named The Mission.

That's right. I forgot that John Paul Jones produced them!! I did'nt know about the american Mission?!!
Yeah, we're stupid and can't tell the difference between an R&B band and a rock band.

KOPEK ... 1 point but 2 points if mute is on
Very nice indeed!  At least until they showed the singer dude! really?  The tune isnt bad, the singer is unwatchable though, but I have to watch his parts to get to the best part of this while thing ... and yes, its the girl!  Im a guy not much more needs to be said!

THE BLACKOUTS ... 0 points
Hey she's driving on the wrong side of the road! Does all those flips and rolls on the ground make him go faster and be less detectable or something?  OK the tune is so-so and Im being kind because I still have the Kopek video replaying in my mind.  Who are these guys again?  0 points for not helping move on from the previous video.

RIVAL SCHOOLS ... 0 points
So I was thinking, remember that Kopek video where that girl walked up to the amp and turned it up to 11 and then got down with the amp?  Remember that?  That was cool.
