Classic Rock Bottom

Since the inaugural version was such a rousing success*, the power that be (there can be only one!) has decided it's time for another music challenge.

The rules are simple:

Starting 5/1/14 (that's May 1st of the year 2014 for those that have problems with numbers), you will have 31 (thirty-one) days to listen to 30 (thirty) albums. No, not just ANY albums, but a specific genre of albums.

Last November's challenge was easy. Five (5) albums each from the 60's (sixties), 70's (seventies), 80's (eighties), 90's (nineties) and 00's (umm....zeroes zeroes?). Simple. Those that completed that challenge were given to opportunity to pick a specific genre for the next challenge, which is THIS challenge.

So, you're probably asking yourself "What are the categories, or genres, this time?" Well, we don't know yet. We're making you wait and giving you ample time to get prepared. We're like that.

For those that complete the challenge, you'll be given the opportunity to pick a category for an upcoming challenge, just like those that completed the inaugural challenge. Yep, we're nice like that.

You can keep a running tally of your albums in this post. The only requirements are the album title, artist and what challenge category it falls into. You can also wait to post until you're done with the challenge. Either way is perfectly fine. We're easy like that.

All you need to do now is wait. Wait for the categories to appear below. Wait, but breathe. Always remember to breathe.

Sent the link to you via Facebook (Dropbox integrates nicely with FB, adds your contacts automatically).....let me know if it makes it there or not.

Listen to 5 disco and/or funk albums, soundtracks included #3:

Artist name: Peter Brown
Album name: A Fantasy Love Affair
Year released/recorded: 1978

With the awesome "Dance With Me" on it, I had to throw this into the mix. This guy recorded this album (for the most part) in his bedroom. With 1978 technology, that was one hell of an accomplishment to pull off.

Listen to 5 disco and/or funk albums, soundtracks included #4:

Artist name: Donna Summer
Album name: Endless Summer: Donna Summer's Greatest Hits
Year recorded/released: 1995

Between Kiss' "Rock And Roll All Nite" and Donna Summer's "Love To Love You, Baby", Casablanca got to hang around and be something other than a footnote in the music industry. This album has that one, and so many more good songs. R.I.P., Donna!

Listen to 5 disco and/or funk albums, soundtracks included #5

Artist name: Michael Jackson
Album name: Off The Wall
Year recorded/released: 1979

Another great artist taken way too soon from us. He might have been weird, but he was incredibly talented and wrote some damn fine music!

CHALLENGE #2 COMPLETE!

Listen to 5 albums featuring a female lead singer:

1. The Donnas - Spend The Night (Brett Anderson)

2. Sass Jordan - Racine (Sass Jordan)

3. Rossington Collins Band - Anytime, Anyplace, Anywhere (Dale Krantz)

4. Patsy Cline - 12 Greatest Hits (Patsy Cline)

5. Garbage - Bleed Like Me (Martha Manson)

It doesn't matter, that I don't finish one catagory at a time, right? I like to pick the albums, I feel like listen to at the moment.

Just now, I've finished listened to my first album in 5) Listen to 5 albums from a group where at least one band member died (courtesy Scott B.)**

The Doors - Morrison Hotel. It's nice to hear one of my "real" Doors-albums, instead of the double Greatest hits-album, that I usually listen to. I think, I have the same kind of "relationship" with The Doors, as with RUSH. Some periodes I really like listening to those bands, and other periodes, I'm really tired of listening to them. Listening to "Morrison Hotel" makes me start listening to The doors again for the next periode. It's been a while since the last time. I'm fed up with RUSH, at the moment, though.

Nope, you can jump around from category to category.

My OCD won't allow me to start one category before finishing another....lol.

Fed up with Rush? Why that's inconceivable!

What have you listened to today Mike?

I concur 100%....no such thing as being fed up with Rush!! lol
