Classic Rock Bottom

Since the inaugural version was such a rousing success*, the power that be (there can be only one!) has decided it's time for another music challenge.

The rules are simple:

Starting 5/1/14 (that's May 1st of the year 2014 for those that have problems with numbers), you will have 31 (thirty-one) days to listen to 30 (thirty) albums. No, not just ANY albums, but a specific genre of albums.

Last November's challenge was easy. Five (5) albums each from the 60's (sixties), 70's (seventies), 80's (eighties), 90's (nineties) and 00's (umm....zeroes zeroes?). Simple. Those that completed that challenge were given to opportunity to pick a specific genre for the next challenge, which is THIS challenge.

So, you're probably asking yourself "What are the categories, or genres, this time?" Well, we don't know yet. We're making you wait and giving you ample time to get prepared. We're like that.

For those that complete the challenge, you'll be given the opportunity to pick a category for an upcoming challenge, just like those that completed the inaugural challenge. Yep, we're nice like that.

You can keep a running tally of your albums in this post. The only requirements are the album title, artist and what challenge category it falls into. You can also wait to post until you're done with the challenge. Either way is perfectly fine. We're easy like that.

All you need to do now is wait. Wait for the categories to appear below. Wait, but breathe. Always remember to breathe.

Not me, I'm starting it next.  As a matter of fact, I have the first album spinning in my vehicle today.  Got one track left so can't count it until it's finished.

I have 5 albums by only 3 different bands pegged for this category.  I thought I would have to buy one or two, but I managed on what I already have.

Listen to 5 albums from a group named after a city, state or country:

1. ATLANTA Rhythm Section--Dog Days

2. Berlin--Count Three & Pray

3. Chilliwack--Opus X

4. Kansas--Audio-Visions

5. Chicago--V

Had to look up Chilliwack.  I've never been to Canada, didn't know where it was.

BC, baby!!!!!

What's funny is I was trying to find something else named after a town instead of going thru the main stuff (Boston, Chicago,. etc.) but gave up and just went with the flow.

OK, onward and upward!

Challenge #2: Listen to 5 disco and/or funk albums, soundtracks included.

Here's my first one!
Band name: Morris Day & The Time
Album title: Ice Cream Castles
Year released/recorded: 1984
I've had this one for a while. When I did the DJ thing in the late 80's/early 90's, people were always requesting "The Bird" and "Jungle Love", so it was good to have around!

Listen to 5 disco and/or funk albums, soundtracks included #2:

Band name: Ohio Players
Album name: Gold
Year released/recorded: 1976
Another oldie but goodie I've had forever. I used to go roller skating quite a bit when I was younger, three nights a week, to be exact. Wednesday night was Metal/Hard Rock night, Friday night was just the normal popular music stuff, and Sunday night at the Skatin' Station in Canton, MI was funk night. Guess that's when I started getting into that kind of music. Of course, I kind of hid that fact from most of my rock & punk friends...lol.

This may also be one category where it would be almost impossible to come up with an obscure act. Not that it's going to prevent me from trying, though...lol.

That one sounds interesting.  Wouldn't mind hearing that myself.

I'll copy the folder up to Dropbox and send you a link to access it if you'd like!

Cool.  Thanks.
