Classic Rock Bottom

NMC #24 (Motörhead, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club and Elvis Costello)

Okay, now it's my turn again to give you some examples of new music:

I had hoped to be able to have the new album by "The Damned Things" in this week's NMC, but I'll have to wait until monday, before I can get the album, so it will be in my next NMC in 2011. But hey, these album's are not bad at all IMHO:

1. MOTÖRHEAD - THE WÖRLD IS YOURS

Releasedate: 13th of december 2010

1. Born To Lose
2. I Know How To Die
3. Devils In My Head
4. Outlaw
5. I Know What You Need

I did manage to get the new Motörhead-album anyway, and if you don't really like Lemmy's voice, there's some pretty good guitar on this album. Its my second purchase by them and by far the best. This album actually rocks!!

2. BLACK REBEL MOTORCYKLE CLUB - BEAT THE DEVIL'S TATOO

Releasedate: 9th of march 2010

From Allmusic: Black Rebel Motorcykle Club's 2010 album, finds the band splitting the difference between the rootsy Americana of 2005's Howl and the return to fuzzed-out noise rock that was 2007's Baby 81, likely to grab you by the throat and leave its mark for some time to come.

Billede

1. Beat The Devil's Tatoo
2. Bad Blood
3. Evol
4. Mama Taught Me Better
5. Long Way Down

3. ELVIS COSTELLO - NATIONAL RANSOM

Releasedate: 2nd of november 2010

Well, you should know by now, that I don't like, only to have "heavy rock" in "my" NMC, and this week is no different. The new album by EC was produced by T-Bone Burnett, and I think you can hear that. Well, maybe some of you will like it???

1. National Ransom
2. Jimmie Standing In The Rain
3. Church Underground
4. The Spell That You Cast
5. A Voice In The Dark

Motorhead (Thumbs Sideways)

I don't own any Motorhead.  I'm not a fan of Lemmy's voice.  Having said that, this is not bad, especially musically speaking.  The drums are really good (the first track in particular).  To me, that's the best song here.

Black Rebel Motorcykle Club (Thumbs Down)

I kind of liked the first song, but then songs 2-5 really dragged this down for me.

Elvis Costello (Thumbs 3/4 Up)

Again, I don't own any Elvis Costello, so my hopes weren't really high for this one.  However, I think it's pretty good.  It's definitely the best of the 3 here for me.  I don't think I'd put it in the buy category, but an interesting listen none the less.

Motorhead--Thumb Up

I really liked this..haven't picked up any Motorhead for years, everything was starting to sound the same. This sounds a bit fresh to me .

BRMC--Thumbs down

Felt like I was hearing the same song over and over....and I kinda liked the first song. Doesn't this mean I should actually like every song? I dunno...

Elvis Costello--Thumbs sideways

Only bought one Elvis Costello in my life and that was way back in 1980 with the "Get Happy!" release. 30 years later, this hasn't changed. It's not bad, but something about his music annoys me.

MOTORHEAD ... (Thumbs slightly pointed down)
Nice production!  I too, like RJ, can't really get into Lemmy's voice.  I'm just gonna go thumbs slightly pointed down.  Not a buy for me...

BLACK REBEL MOTORCYKLE CLUB ... (Thumbs 45 degrees up)
There is no reason why I would like this.  Other bands who sound similar wouldn't get to me.  So why does this band?  There is something quirky and cool about them that I will need to listen closer to.  Never-mind..  I'm probably just jet lagged!  But I will listen again

ELVIS COSTELLO ... (Thumbs down)
Once upon a time I tried really hard to get into Costello.  His debut was causing a buzz and people were buying into it.  So I bought it, tried it, and never got it.  So I have to re-ask myself...  What's so funny bout peace love & understanding?  I still get nothing...

As usual, great post by Niels!  I love trying this new stuff out!

Neils, this is your second Motorhead purchase? are you serious. If you were my child...why I would....!!!!!!!

Dude....get on top of the older Motorhead man. Iron Fist, Rock n Roll, Overkill, Bomber... even Ace of Spades. Come on!

You are missing the essence of guttural, whiskey drinkin' cigarette smokin' nasty dirty rock n roll.

Okay okay, Danno, I'm terrible sorry. I'm glad, I'm not your kid, then. Iron Fist is in fact the other album I've got, and a friend of mine had Ace of Spades, so I've heard that one many times. What do you think of the new one then?
I like the new one. Its back to basics. Its a short album though. Around 36 minutes I think. Sorry about the large type in my previous response. I didn't intentionally do that.
