Star Date: Cinco De Mayo, Dos-0-Uno-Cinco...
We're off planet Earth and deep into space and thats where our playlist finds us this week. We begin by travelling through space and then we discover a couple of different places to stop and explore before heading out again. Where we go nobody knows, it is space afterall, and with so many directions and places to explore were left to float the universe!
So, where next?

"Mars Attacks!" is a cool movie. I don't care what anyone says. I even have a martian action figure (ok, doll) that makes the martian noises. It is awesome.
Even with the absence (again) of Major Tom, this was a good playlist. I had "Imaginos" on the original CD and it was fetching quite a pretty penny on ebay and other sites. I bought it in Omaha at some store, it had the "Nice Price" sticker on it and it was only $9.99, not sure if it was OOP at that time, but I help onto it. One thing about the production, it sounds like it was recorded in an echoey room or something. I like the album a lot, but even the remaster has that same sound. Makes it more dreamy, I guess.
Got my copy of Imaginos in the BOC box set - that was a wise purchase!!!
And yes Mars Attacks is a great movie!
YES - Never was a Yes-fan. They are too weird. I've got a box-set, though, and I remember listening to this track a couple of times. Like with other bands from that periode, their strongest work seems to be from their first 5 albums. Again the singer is the weakest link for me. Anderson's voice is way too "light", a bit annoying imo. But this track is a fine piece of Prog from the golden age, a bit too long, though. I prefer Genesis (and Tull, off course) from this periode of time.
BÖC - Even less a fan of BÖC than Yes, I am. It's not bad, but why waste anymore time on something, that I can't hear anything especially good in. This one kind of sound like Saga. I have a friend, that's a fan of BÖC, so I've heard a lot of their music. I've allways thought the same: "Take of that album, and put on something good". This song doesn't change that feeling at all.
UFO - Yet another band, I don't really care for. Mind you, I have tried to really get in to UFO, but kind of like BÔC, they appear to me as a "second hand-band". Don't get offended, Scott and Jon, but I really can't hear, why this band should had been any bigger, than they became. Once again the singer is one of the weak links. Another weak link is actually the songs. I don't think, they've got strong material at all. The strongest is the guitar, though especially not very strong on this track. I don't know when it was Schenker, and when it wasn't.
BLACK SABBATH - At last, a band that I can call myself a fan of. These days, I certainly prefer the Ozzy-albums to the Dio-albums. This track on the other hand, is extremely boring, and I usually skip it.
Dear Niels...
I'm kidding (except for the part about coming back to listen again) ... I love the feedback! Thanks for taking time to listen and respond!.
Scott
Yes - No. Just kidding. I have to agree with Niels, I'm not much of a Yes fan. I can see where Anderson's voice could get extremely annoying. But I have thought about exploring the band some. Just haven't done it. I like complete album box sets, and I think they may have one, not sure. Who knows, maybe one day. On a side note, it took me a little over a minute into the song to realize that my ear buds are shot. No sound at all from the left bud. Guess it's time for a new pair. Oh, this song is okay. Kinda long. I guess because it's prog. I did enjoy the guitar work near the end.
BOC - A new joy to me. I wish I had been listening to this band since I was old enough to know. I also have the complete albums box, and I totally dig what I've been able to listen to. Now I'm gonna have to spin this up, because I like the dreaminess of the sound and it just rocks. Swing and a miss for Niels on this one.
UFO - Second band in a row that is basically a new discovery to me. I have purchased the vast majority of the band's catalog since I started listening to them, and I have yet to be disappointed. This track does have a bit of an epic feel to it, probably mostly because of the guitar. And I dig Mogg's voice, then and now. Seems appropriate for an album closer.
BS - Psychedelic is an under statement. This song sounds exactly like you are floating through space. The guitar work on it is phenomenal, And the percussion is quite cool. So a nice pick here.
Good job Scott. This was a nice listen.
Did you notice how eerily similar the opening to the UFO and Sabbath tracks were? THe first 2-3 seconds are nearly indistinguishable...
I did not, but I'll try to check that out again.
