1970. I was 5 years old, and remember, that I saw some kind of advertice in one of my Donald Duck-comics, where 4 old bearded men were pictured, and I did'nt like the look of them. One of them was smiling though, so he was probably a nice man. It was first many years later, that I realized, that it was an ad for "Let it be". The members of the Beatles was very much a part of the music-scene in 1970, and they also appear 3 times on my list. It would definetly had been 4 times, if I had the first Paul McCartney solo-album on CD, but I have'nt. "Maybe I'm amazed" is surely missing on my list!!
I could have made the list longer, but I've left of Frank Zappa ("My guitar want's to kill your Mama"), The Doors (Waiting for the sun), David Bowie (The man who sold the world) and Rod Stewart (Gasoline alley). I'm sure you can think of many others.
1.The Kinks - Lola
2. George Harrison - Beware of darkness
3. The Who - The Seeker
4. Derek and the Dominos - Layla
5. The Beatles - Across the Universe
6. Black Sabbath - Iron Man
7. Elton John - Your song
8. Led Zeppelin - Friends
9. Neil Young - Southern Man
10. Deep Purple - Speed King
11. Plastic Ono Band - Love
12. Simon and Garfunkel - Cecilia
13. The Carpenters - (They long to be) Close to you

1970, I was 4 years old. I don't remember much of anything. But here are some brief comments on these songs.
The Kinks - I just said that I don't see the genius of Ray Davies, then I hear this song, which is pure genius. Definitely one of their better tracks imo.
George Harrison - Doesn't really do much for me.
The Who - Great song. Not one that's generally on my radar from The Who, but that should change.
Derek & The Dominoes - This could have been on Scott's SHT list (at least the re-worked version could have been). This is definitely the definitive version to me.
The Beatles - I like this better than the George Harrison song.
Black Sabbath - I really like this, but I've only gotten into Black Sabbath over the last few years. Great guitar work.
Elton John - This is one of the all-time great ballads. It's wonderful lyrically and musically.
Led Zeppelin - Not really one of my favorites from LZ.
Neil Young - On the other hand, this is one of my favorites by Neil Young. Just a great vocal from somebody who doesn't have the most beautiful voice in my book.
Deep Purple - This one's just okay to me. I like the music better than the vocals.
Plastic Ono Band - I'm just not really a fan of this.
Simon & Garfunkel - One of my favorites by these guys. We had a local band in Athen's that played this all the time and I think that's where my love of this track comes from.
The Carpenters - I like the Carpenters just fine, although I'm not that big a fan of this song.
Nice post Niels.
He is a fictional animated character. It was a lame attempt at a joke. But he's not plastic, so it was a really, really lame attempt.
